Ques. Can madrasa graduates apply for BA (Hons.) Islamic Studies at JMI? What is the eligibility?
Ans. Yes, madrasa graduates with qualifications equivalent to Class 12 as recognised by JMI are eligible to apply. JMI has a provision for madrasa graduates in several programmes. The entrance test includes questions on Islamic knowledge (Quran, Hadith, Fiqh, Islamic history), which gives madrasa graduates a significant advantage in Part B of the test.
Ques. What career options are available after BA (Hons.) Islamic Studies from JMI?
Ans. Graduates can pursue careers in teaching, research, Islamic jurisprudence, civil services (Islamic History/Culture as optional in UPSC), journalism, NGO work, and international organisations dealing with Muslim affairs. Many students go on to pursue MA Islamic Studies, MA Arab-Islamic Culture, or PhD at JMI. JMI Islamic Studies graduates have a strong presence in academia, religious institutions, and civil services.
Ques. Is the BA (Hons.) Islamic Studies programme at JMI taught in English, Arabic, or Urdu?
Ans. The programme is primarily taught in English, with some subjects having Arabic or Urdu content. Core subjects like Quran, Hadith, and Fiqh may involve Arabic texts, while the medium of instruction and examination is primarily English. Students with knowledge of Arabic and Urdu have an advantage.
Ques. What is the difference between BA (Hons.) Islamic Studies and BA (Hons.) Arabic at JMI?
Ans. BA (Hons.) Islamic Studies focuses on Islamic theology, jurisprudence, history, and civilisation, with Arabic as a tool for understanding Islamic texts. BA (Hons.) Arabic focuses on Arabic language and literature as the primary subject. Ques. What is the Muslim minority reservation in BA (Hons.) Islamic Studies at JMI?
Ans. JMI being a Minority Institution, 50% of seats are reserved for Muslim candidates: 30% for Muslim applicants (general), 10% for Muslim women, and 10% for Muslim OBC/ST candidates. The remaining 50% seats are open to all candidates. Additionally, 5% seats are reserved for PwD candidates, 5% for internal Jamia students, and 5% for Kashmiri migrants.
