Ans. Graduates typically pursue careers in civil services (UPSC/state PSCs), social research, NGOs, policy think-tanks, journalism, development sector organizations, and academia (by pursuing M.A. and then Ph.D.). JMI's location in Delhi provides excellent access to internships at ICSSR, NGOs, and government bodies. Direct campus placements specific to sociology are limited; most students secure roles through internships, networking, and higher studies.

Ans. As per the 2026 prospectus and official sources, there is no negative marking in the JMI B.A. (Hons.) Sociology entrance test (B55). However, for most other JMI entrance tests, 0.25 marks are deducted per wrong answer. Always verify from the official prospectus before the exam.
Ques. Can students from non-science or non-arts streams (e.g., Commerce) apply for B.A. (Hons.) Sociology at JMI?

Ans. Hostel accommodation at JMI is highly sought after and not guaranteed. The university has a combined capacity of approximately 4,120 students (2,220 boys and 1,900 girls), but with over 20,000 students enrolled, only about 30% get hostel accommodation. Allotment is based on a holistic evaluation including academic performance, distance from home, economic background, and extracurricular involvement. Students from outside Delhi are given priority.
Ques. Does JMI offer any pathway to pursue M.A. Sociology after completing B.A. (Hons.) Sociology from JMI itself?
Ans. Yes. JMI offers M.A. (Sociology) (Program Code M12) with 42 seats, with an annual fee of Rs. 10,175 (2026-27). Admission is through a separate JMI entrance test for PG programs. Having a B.A. (Hons.) in Sociology with not less than 50% marks in aggregate, or a B.A. with Sociology as one of the subjects with not less than 55% marks in aggregate, makes you eligible. Many JMI B.A. Sociology graduates continue to M.A. at JMI itself, given the strong department culture and affordable fees.
