Ques. Is B.A. (Hons.) Turkish Language and Literature from JMI a good career choice? What are the job prospects?
Ans. Yes, it is a niche but rewarding career choice. JMI is one of the very few universities in India offering a dedicated B.A. (Hons.) in Turkish Language and Literature. Ques. Do JMI Turkish Language students get scholarships to study in Turkey?
Ans. Yes, this is one of the most attractive features of this program. JMI students from the Turkish Language and Literature department regularly receive the prestigious Turkiye Burslari (Turkish Government Scholarship) to pursue postgraduate studies in Turkey. The scholarship covers tuition fees, hostel accommodation, mess charges, and a monthly stipend of approximately USD 250. Multiple JMI students have received this scholarship in recent years, studying at universities across Turkey.
Ques. What is the admission process for B.A. (Hons.) Turkish Language and Literature at JMI in 2026?
Ans. Admission is through CUET 2026 (General Aptitude Test - 501), conducted by NTA. Students must register for CUET 2026 at cuet.nta.nic.in, appear for the exam (May 11-31, 2026), and then apply to JMI through the JMI admission portal. JMI will prepare a merit list based on CUET scores and JMI's reservation policy. No prior knowledge of Turkish is required for admission.

Ans. The B.A. (Hons.) is a full 4-year degree program (8 semesters, 30 seats) that covers Turkish language, grammar, Ottoman Turkish, and the complete history of Turkish literature. The Diploma in Turkish (D06, Part-Time, 1 year) and Advanced Diploma in Turkish (A02, Part-Time, 1 year) are shorter, part-time programs focused primarily on language proficiency. The B.A. (Hons.) is for students seeking a comprehensive academic qualification, while the Diploma programs are for those wanting language skills for professional or personal use.
Ques. Can I pursue M.A. in Turkish or related studies after completing B.A. (Hons.) Turkish Language and Literature from JMI?
Ans. JMI does not currently offer an M.A. in Turkish Language and Literature. However, graduates can pursue M.A. in related fields such as Comparative Literature, Translation Studies, or Area Studies at other universities in India. The most popular pathway is the Turkiye Burslari scholarship for PG studies in Turkey, where graduates can pursue M.A. in Turkish Language and Literature, Turkish History, or related disciplines at Turkish universities.
