NMIMS BBA (Advertising & Branding) FAQs
Ques. Is BBA (Branding & Advertising) at NMIMS Mumbai a good choice for someone who wants to work in advertising agencies or brand consultancies?
Ans. The program is specifically designed for students interested in the branding and advertising space. It covers brand management, advertising strategy, creative thinking, and business fundamentals. However, students and alumni consistently note that placements are not guaranteed by the college, and success in the advertising industry depends heavily on internships, portfolio building, and personal networking. If you are passionate about the field and willing to hustle independently, the NMIMS brand name and curriculum can be a good foundation.
Ques. What is the difference between BBA (Branding & Advertising) and BBA (General) at NMIMS?
Ans. BBA (Branding & Advertising) is offered by the School of Branding and Advertising (SOBA) and is a specialized program focused on brand building, advertising, creative communication, and entrepreneurship. BBA (General) is offered by the Anil Surendra Modi School of Commerce (ASMSOC) and covers broader business management topics. The fee for BBA (Branding & Advertising) is Rs. 5,50,000 per annum, significantly higher than BBA (General) at Rs. 4,00,000 per annum.
Ques. Can I get admission to BBA (Branding & Advertising) at NMIMS without appearing for NPAT?
Ans. No. NPAT (NMIMS Programme After Twelfth) is the mandatory entrance exam for all undergraduate programs at NMIMS, including BBA (Branding & Advertising). There is no direct admission route. You can attempt the exam up to 3 times (1 main + 2 retakes), and the best score is considered for merit list preparation.
Ques. Is the 4-year Honours degree option worth it at NMIMS SOBA?
Ans. Under NEP 2020, NMIMS offers a 4-year Honours degree option. Students who wish to pursue this must indicate their preference at the end of Year 2. The 4th year focuses on research and multi-disciplinary studies. While the Honours degree adds academic value, students should weigh the additional year of fees (Rs. 5.5 lakh+) against the career benefits, especially since most advertising and branding roles do not specifically require an Honours degree.
Ques. Does NMIMS Mumbai have a hostel for BBA (Branding & Advertising) students?
Ans. Hostel accommodation at the Mumbai campus is available but optional, and it is allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. It is not compulsory for Mumbai campus students. Many outstation students opt for PGs or shared apartments near the Vile Parle campus. The hostel fee is approximately Rs. 1,80,000 to Rs. 2,50,000 per annum.
Ques. What NPAT score is typically required to get into BBA (Branding & Advertising) at NMIMS Mumbai?
Ans. NMIMS does not officially publish cutoff scores for NPAT. However, based on student experiences shared on forums, a score of 90+ out of 120 is generally considered competitive for the Mumbai campus BBA (Branding & Advertising) program, given the seat intake of 240. The merit list is based on a combination of NPAT score and 10+2 aggregate marks. Candidates are advised to aim for the highest possible score and attempt retakes if needed.
