NMIMS B.Des FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between the NMIMS DAT/HT Studio Test and the UCEED exam, and can I use my UCEED score for admission?
Ans. The NMIMS DAT/HT (Design Aptitude Test for Humanising Technology) is NMIMS's own entrance test comprising a Studio Test, Portfolio Review, and Personal Interview. If you have a valid UCEED 2026 score, you are exempted from the Studio Test but must still appear for the Portfolio Review and Personal Interview at NMIMS. You must carry a hardcopy of your UCEED scorecard. If your UCEED scorecard mentions Not Qualified, you are not exempted and must appear for the Studio Test.
Ques. What should my portfolio contain for the NMIMS B.Des admission process?
Ans. Your portfolio must have a minimum of 5 pages. Pages 1, 2, and 3 can showcase your best work of your choice (perspective/nature drawing, sketches, painting, photography, or photographs of models/sculptures you have made). Page 4 must include Product Sketching (detailed sketches capturing product details), and Page 5 must include Rapid Sketching (quick sketches capturing the essence of a figure, nature, or action). Only hardcopy of original work is accepted; photocopies, printouts, or digital displays are strictly not allowed.
Ques. Is the B.Des (Humanising Technology) at NMIMS available at campuses other than Mumbai?
Ans. As per the 2026 admission handout, the B.Des (Humanising Technology) programme is offered only at the Mumbai campus of NMIMS. The programme has an intake of 25 students, making it a highly selective and intimate learning environment.
Ques. What are the specialisations available in the B.Des (Humanising Technology) programme?
Ans. In Years III and IV, students can explore specialisations in Virtual Reality (VR), Internet of Things (IoT), and Cognitive-science-based Product Design. The first two years focus on building a strong foundation in Design Fundamentals and Design Influencers (Psychology, Sociology, Technology, and Business Management).
Ques. Is the 5-month internship paid, and when does it take place?
Ans. Yes, the 5-month internship at NMIMS School of Design is a paid internship with leading organisations. It is a structured part of the curriculum in Year IV and provides direct industry exposure. Past internship partners have included companies across EdTech, Gaming, Digital Media, IT Services, and Design Consulting sectors.
Ques. What is the minimum batch size for the programme to commence, and what happens if the minimum is not met?
Ans. The B.Des (Humanising Technology) programme at NMIMS will commence only if a minimum of 10 candidates have taken admission. If fewer than 10 candidates are admitted, the tuition fees of enrolled students will be refunded. Alternatively, students may be offered admission to other programmes based on seat availability.
