Course Curriculum

8

  • The course curriculum is of medium difficulty level with a mix of theoretical and practical classes.
  • The positive aspect is the extensive variety of electives and research, and the negative aspect is the workload.
  • There are 1–3 classes per day usually, each for 1–2 hours. The class size is 40–60 students on average. There are plenty of approximately 500 Indian students who are there, forming a majority of the batch.

Admission Experience

  • I have applied for 3 colleges and got admits from 2.
    Arizona state university: Admitted
    Northeastern University: shortlisted
    Stony brook university: Rejected

  • Arizona State University and Northeastern University gave me admission confirmation.
  • Stony brook rejected me because of my GRE score and may be due to the insufficient recommendations from professors.
  • First, the College brand value made me choose Arizona state university. I have applied through kaplan to get admission.
  • For GRE the minimum score is 305 and for IELTs the minimum score is 7( In person).
  • It was a smooth process, I received I20 via mail then they were invited to orientation to get the glimpse of the campus and I reached out to some professors for the course structure.
  • I had applied to ASU in the fall semester having in mind things like better course offerings, internship opportunities, and sponsorship. Admissions took around 6–8 months: I had applied in December, received a response in March-April, received my I-20 in May, completed my visa process in June, and arrived in the U.S. in August to settle in, undergo orientation, and prepare for my courses.

Faculty

8

  • The student-faculty ratio is around 1:20, allowing decent interaction, whereas in certain large classes, this may limit individualized attention. All teaching methods utilize a mix of lectures, projects, and research-learning, allowing significant job preparation.
  • Certain instructors provide job referrals to students. Professors that I have respect for present industry experience along with teaching complex ideas in rendering them practical as well as interest-generating.

Campus Life

8

  • There are four campuses of ASU: the main campus at Tempe, West campus (Phoenix), Polytechnic campus (Mesa), and Downtown Phoenix campus. The main campus at Tempe offers a large library, sports complex, and medical facilities.
  • Major events include ASU Fall Festival, Sun Devil Stadium games, and Devilpalooza. Events include sports (basketball, football) and cultural events such as Diwali and Holi. There are numerous student organizations focused on academics, technology, and social issues.

Part Time Jobs

  • A fairly high number of students secure employment as TA, RA, or DA, although competition is very stiff. The range of hourly wages for such jobs typically ranges from $15 to $30 per hour. On-campus employment consists of working in libraries, dining, and administration support, and the pay typically ranges from $12–$18 an hour. Students are allowed up to 20 hours per week during the academic term for such employment. On-campus employment can be quite competitive, especially for employment as TA/RA.
  • The students typically receive between $12 to $18 per hour for part-time campus jobs, depending on the position. Securing part-time work might be relatively competitive, especially for those that offer higher pay or more favorable working hours. In order to get chosen, students will generally start by examining existing jobs listed on ASU's career webpage or student employment websites, apply and submit their resume, then be interviewed if shortlisted. Certain positions may also include additional processes like background checks or a proficiency test.

Placement

8

  • Around 40 %of students from my graduating batch get placed within 6 months of graduation. The pay package for graduates from my program is normally between $70,000 to $100,000 annually based on role and location.
  • Students tend to get placed with campus placements, networking events, internships, and job websites. The majority of my peers have been assigned to companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Oracle, and Intel as engineers, data analysts, and software developers.
  • The biggest companies that are hiring from my program include IBM, Microsoft, Google, and Amazon.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • I arranged my accommodation using online websites and student communities on Discord and WhatsApp. My rent was approximately $700–$1,200 per month, which covered utilities such as Wi-Fi and electricity.
  • The challenges were high demand and finding a lease without a credit score. I would advise booking in advance and sharing an apartment with roommates.
  • My accommodation is 10–15 minutes from campus, and the majority of Indian students reside in surrounding apartments such as Gateway and Villas.

Exams

  • I had taken the TOEFL for English and GRE, though sometimes ASU also waives GRE.
  • The paperwork needed was transcripts, statement of purpose, letters of recommendation, resume, and financial documents for the I-20.
  • No interview was part of my process; admission was based on academic records, test scores, and paperwork submitted, decisions typically being made in March-April.

Fees

  • 60,000 USD as total fee
30,000 USD for the tuition, 12000 for hostel and the others contribute to Insurance and health.
  • In the first 3 semesters they charge around 13000 USD and the last semester it is 7700.
  • Monthly expenses are around 500 which includes the accommodation, food, electricity and other utilities.
  • The transportation is free and there is bus facility.

Scholarship

  • I have not received any scholarship due to less CGPA. If you have more than 9 CGPA you would get the scholarship of 5000 USD.
  • Many of my batchmates received the scholarship and there are no external scholarships that are given to international students.
  • On an average 120 people receive the scholarships for each year and the award is more of merit based.
