- Campus: UMD, being a public university, has a very vast campus. It must be around1500 acres in size. There are a lot of buildings giving off an old architecture kind of vibe which I like.
- Proximity to DC: Washington DC, the capital of United States, is just a 20 minute metro ride away from the university, which it makes it easier for students to make fun plans on the weekends, or show around the city to friends who are visiting..
- Facilities: The university has huge gymnasiums, numerous libraries, and dining halls with delicious foods. It can be overwhelming at first but eventually everything will make sense and be of good use.
Dislikes
- Lack of Jobs: If you are not a US citizen, this university won't be able to help you much in landing an internship or a job. In the career fairs, all of the government companies are present (due to the proximity to the white house, and parliament)
- Ghost Town: During summers and winter break it can get tough for international students as almost everyone is out of the city. If you have no plans to go out for a trip, it can be challenging mentally to be present here.
- Cold: College park gets pretty cold (not as cold as new york, but much colder than the west coast) and at times it just might be difficult to step out of the house during winters because of the snow.
- I joined each and every whatsapp groups associated with University of Maryland. On the group chat there used to be occasional posting by students when they have to sell/buy any items or even sublet their room. I approached a person who wanted to transfer his lease.
- My monthly rent where I stayed for 1 year was $550. Utilities like water, electricity were included.
- The only challenge I incurred was to pay a security deposit of $550 without actually seeing in real life how the apartment looks like. I had to confirm from a lot of sources that the apartment does exists and it is not a fake posting.
- I would recommend upcoming students to get housing in area close to the campus. You will save a lot of time, and it will be much safer. Also, don't pay more than $900. It's easy to find a goof private room within $900.
- My building (where my classes take place) is a 7 minute walk. Most of the Indian students stay in Graduate Hills, Hyattsville.

- Community which is diverse and enthusiastic.
- Top notch coursework for Cybersecurity.
Dislikes
- High cost of living compared to other states.
- The university pantry can improve.
- Less emphasis on fests and extra activities.
- Students usually apply for accommodation online.
- There are two very famous apartments: Graduate Hills and Graduate Garden. They take online applications. Students can join WhatsApp groups to get more updates.
Challenges: These apartment gets a lot of applications. It is advised to apply early.
Recommendations: Connect with students who are already in the US.

- Good curriculum, great ranking, reasonable tuition fees, safe area, good alumni network
- Easy to blend in, great curriculum, good extra curricular activities present, good accomodation available, community is well knit, health center is available at a cheap rate
Dislikes
- Lots of students, so sometimes that becomes an issue, teacher to student ratio is not so high, good accomodation is available but it's limited so one has to be proactive
Overall experience I would say has been great so far. Right from the moment I came here it has been a smooth ride. I enjoyed the courses I chose, I made good friends. Also to mention, there is a huge fitness centre in the university so that’s helpful as well.

- Campus, recreation center, student jobs, great infrastructure, quiet and peaceful area, full of students, opportunities to work under professors

- "the campus is huge. It could take a while to get to certain classes depending on where they are parking can be tough "
great place to be, surrounded by students which creates a different vibe to hustle, party clubs are also present around, many eateries

- The Robotics program at UMD is one of the top in the US. The fees was also major factor in the decision to study at UMD. The faculty is very good as well as the choice of courses is very appropriate and in accordance with the industry standards.
- The University has a very reasonable tuition fee for MEngg programs considering it is also know as a “public ivy” because of its rank and reputation. The campus resources are abundant and free to use, ensuring a very active and good work life balance. The Engineering departments in particular have some of the most advanced labs and resources that might not be the case with some of the other universities in the area.
Dislikes
- The diversity in some of the programs is quite less. There are many South Asian students in Engineering programs so does not feel like an international program. The nearby areas like Baltimore are notorious for a high crime rate so a precautions are needed if you are going there.
My overall experience for UMD has been very pleasant, I am able to find some balance in the work-life balance and I am positive that this degree from UMD would be life-changing for me. The academics are very rigorous but there are plenty of resources to support your endeavor.

- Less fees, one of the top universities, good faculties, not so bad whether, good location.
- The practical way of teaching all courses. All faculties are highly educated and knowledgeable. Also, the assignments are very practical and very helpful. This university is one of the top institutes in USA. Apart from studies also, we get a lot to do. Events keep happening throughout the year.
Dislikes
- We get Too many assignments but they might be common in all universities. Some faculties have a very strict grading system. So, it is not very easy to score good. Some courses are competitive to go get into and charge high fees. Mine is not like that
Everything is super amazing in terms of university. Love all the events, especially the football and soccer games which are a huge thing here in USA.

My overall experience is pretty good at University of Maryland. The classes are really good and the syllabus is designed in such a way that it helps to make you understand in easy ways.

- UMD has got an impressive curriculum that fulfills the real-world industry standards. Moreover, the subjects motivates the students to give their best in achieving high standards in their education. The career fair opportunities is one of the best things UMD has got. There is a lot of scope for engineering departments, especially cybersecurity grad students because of their in house cyber security research centre.

Dislikes
- I don't see anything less impressive at the college as they have got top-class education system. May be , UMD could have their shuttle services even after 10PM to all the places which could make the life of all the students peaceful.
Exciting and the scope of exploration is vast inside the university. if you need to learn a lot and grow to heights , UMD is the best place.
