- It is very affordable in terms of tuition fees as well as living expenses. As Master Student studying Computer Science per semester your fees would be around 10k and living expenses per month would be around 450. If you are coming for Data Science or any other major that falls under College of Engineering you would easily get scholarship and your tuition fees would be halved.
- It is relatively easier to get an on-campus job. There are loads of opportunities available for international students. There are fair amount of assistantships as well which could be achieved with a bit more research and networking.
- The options in terms of subject selection are also vast and you could also see subjects that would be offered till next three semesters which makes planning selection a lot more easier.
Dislikes
- There are too many international students enrolled for courses like Computer Science, Data Science etc which is not that great to be honest.
- Although there are career fairs organized by the university, they are very rare, maybe 1 or 2 per semester so it gets a bit difficult to find a job.
- The location being Houston is not great for Technological students since there are very less companies due to which the advantage of local hiring is pretty much nonexistent.
Campus Life
- University has 4 campus
University of Houston, Main Campus
University of Houston, Clear Lake Campus
University of Houston, Downtown
University of Houston, Sugar Land Campus. University of Houston. - University of Houston, Clear Lake Campus are two main where mostly international students will be studying. All the facilities that one can think of are readily available on the campus. More preference is given for Basketball and football teams when it comes to sports.
Accommodation
- I found out about it through seniors via LinkedIn, who helped me with it. Monthly rent is around 350 for a 2b2b shared accommodation which most students prefer. It includes Central AC, Refrigerator, Oven and Dishwasher. Finding like minded roommates was the most difficult part.
- I think students similar to me should reach out to seniors to know about specific details, however joining what’s app groups would provide sufficient details. There are two main housing options where Indians live 1. Stratford Apartments where most North Indians live and Med Center where mostly South Indians live they are both around 45 mins away via Bus transport.

Likes
- Industry relevant curriculum
- Supportive faculty and research oppurtunities
- University location and career exposure
Dislikes
- Limited course availabilites in some semesters
- Limited on-campus job oppurtunities for international students
- Administrative delays are very common
Campus Life
- Our college has 4 campuses. I can't comment on all of them since I have only been to one. We have a medical center that gives us free body checks since we are already enrolled in one of their recommended health insurance plans.
- We have a recreation center with volleyball, basketball, and badminton courts along with a gym.
Accommodation
- There are many WhatsApp groups for master's students where people post the availability of accommodation. Even I got one through such a WhatsApp group. There are many challenges faced. The most common one is the roommates that you get. You have to be very careful since you have to live with them every day; make sure you do proper research. My recommendation would be to learn cooking before you come here since food is a very big part of life here and outside food is very expensive.

Likes
- It has a great atmosphere. There is diversity due to students coming from many different countries
- Faculty are always engaged in research with the students. You get to meet your faculty more often compared to any Indian University.
- Simple course structure. The courses are very simple and easy to handle, there is not much load about that
Dislikes
- Medical insurance fees. You have to pay twice in a year, and that is damn expensive compared to the services you will be getting.
- The security of the campus lapses sometimes. There have been many incidents of theft and robbery, where students' valuable items get stolen by the miscreants. It is a major problem, so need to be careful.
- The university is a bit outskirts of the city. So it takes a bit of time to travel by bus to the university.
Campus Life
- There are 4 campuses, UH main campus, UH downtown, UH Clearlake and UH Victoria
- All facilities are available in the main campus, like library, recreation center for sports, medical centre for health checkup.
- All the year there are various events going on, the Indian student organization arranges a freshers and a cultural event annually in the student center.
Accommodation
- I found out my accommodation using the online groups on Factbook and whatsapp.
- Monthly rent was around 650$ for a 2b2b including utilities and excluding electricity. It's an unfurnished apartment, you have a fridge and microwave in the kitchen.
- It was not a very big challenge, I already had friends here before who helped me in getting an apartment.
- I will say to join any online group for future accommodation, you will get someone who is looking for the same thing.
- My apartment is around 9 miles far from campus. Most of the indian students including me stay close to the texas medical center area.

Likes
- There are many peaceful and suitable places across the campus for study-work.
- The professors are very interactive and helpful, and the education at the college is wrathful.
- The management is beneficial, and there are many giveaways around the campus.
Dislikes
- The weather is so humid and hot.
- Most of the people are Indians (good point) but it also leads to less diversity.
- There are fewer options for food on campus, and some of the classes have very odd timings.
Campus Life
- The campus is very good and it has many events, first clubs, and very extracurricular activities.
- It hosts many events daily and uses many giveaways, and it attracts many people across the campus and many people from many streams and many departments, like undergraduate and graduate students, attend every first and participate and show their participation in their activities.
- There are many giveaways at every event, which is the most important thing for many students.
Accommodation
- I opted for off-campus accommodation in a community. I got the through alumni from LinkedIn and the monthly rent is is 340$ and some other bills like water, electricity, and wifi are also there. By God's grace, I got my accommodation. a bit easier because of alumni. Would recommend using LinkedIn and groups for accommodation; mine is approximately 5 miles from the college.

- Assistantships...waived some of my fee
- Environment.... learned a lot to stay independently
- Library... lot of books to read and learn
Dislikes
- No shuttles to travel from city to University , only internal shuttles
- sometimes, they act so miserly, specially ISSSO office at the uni
- Food, same food almost every day,
Campus Life
- The University of Houston has three campuses: the University of Houston Main Campus, the University of Houston Downtown and the University of Houston Sugar Land.
- Most of my classes are scheduled at the University of Houston Main Campus.
- There is a stadium and rec in the university that usually hosts one or the other event. There are games that are usually conducted at least once a month.
Accommodation
- Through WhatsApp groups, I found people posting that they're looking for some more people so that they could sign a lease on.
- And the lease agreement was signed online. The process went easily as some of my roommates are already living here.
- But otherwise, you'll definitely need someone to lead you through all of the steps.

- The college has a diverse culture with people from various parts of the world.
- The college has lot of facilities for students, starting from free food to free medication
- The campus is very huge.
Dislikes
- The course curriculum are not very deep for masters concepts
- The faculty can be improved, as per the college standards
- There are some rigidity to choose subjects, as in some cases you have to take the subjects you are not comfortable with
Campus Life
- My college has a total 4 campuses, which includes Main campus, sugarland, downtown and clearlake, the campuses are very huge and it has all the amenities in them, some lectures take place at different campus where the professor is available.
- The college arranges and celebrates all the Indian festivals and makes indian food available in all the events which is a very unique initiative by the college
Accommodation
- I have opted for an Off campus accommodation named Stratford apartments which is approximately 45 mins away from the college.
- BUt the best part is the rent is very cheaper here where a 2bhk flat is almost 1400 dollars and can be easily shared by 4-5 people, all the indian student community is very strong here so it never feels away from home and the bus commute is also very good and has a frequency in every 10 mins

- Career Fairs - My University helped me to connect with professional people and expanded my network with UH alumni.
- Infrastructure - UH has space or room for everything related to studies, recreational activities, sports, cultural activities, coaching, laboratories, dining, transportation, etc which helped me to balance work-life.
- Resources - UH Library is one of the biggest library in Houston with huge volume of books and systems to do research which helped me to do academic projects.
Dislikes
- Time Management: I did not like the time it takes to process documents related to CPT / I-20.
- Shuttle Facilities: I wish there is free shuttle provided for students staying in the nearby community though we have paid metro.
- On Campus Jobs: Competition for on-campus job is high so getting a part-time job immediately after joining is a concern.
Campus Life
- UH has 3 campuses. One in Downtown, the second one in Sugarland, and the main campus is on Martin Luther King Road.
- UH has recreational center, library, sports facilities, hospital, medical services, conference halls, etc.
- Maithri, Glow Party, Fresher's Welcome Week Events, Cultural Explosion, etc. are the major campus festivals, clubs, or any popular events that take place at my college.
- UH has football and soccer stadiums. They have dedicated areas for other sports like basketball, volleyball, swimming pool, etc. They have a huge auditorium at the student centre for facilitating cultural activities.
Accommodation
- Online platforms like Furnished Finder, WhatsApp groups, etc. helped me find accommodation.
- 680$, including utilities, was the monthly rent for my accommodation.
- I wish I had a vehicle to shift things, as it would have been easier.
- Upcoming students can use the Furnished Finder app or search the GISO UH page on Facebook.
- 6-7 miles away from the college. Most of the Indian students stay near NRG Stadium.

Likes
- Strong research program
- Great mentors from multiple departments
- Strong alumni community that fosters growth and good attitude
Dislikes
- Poor commuting solutions if you are an international student with limited means
- Lack of funding for some of the projects/disciplines that may hinder growth
- Wary weather conditions that affect you in ways that you might not be prepared for
Campus Life
There were a lot of events throughout the year. I could not attend any of them given the nature of design school work. Although the basketball games are worth the watch. Rodeo is a big thing to catch in houston. Occasional flee marts, famers market are a thing. Library, recreational center, gym all are available to use and students pay fees for these when they pay for tuition. SO make sure to use them as well. There are local badminton clubs you can go to and you will form groups when you get here. Whatsapp becomes a group-monger that can make you a part of a certain social circle. Night life does not exist here so dont come here looking for it. But once you make friends you can travel and make plans with them. Clinic is available on campus so it is convenient if any event arises.
Accommodation
Good old whatsapp group formed by our seniors helped us all find accommodation. We found roommates first and then we got on a call to look for apartments. All the facilities were looked for and the month rent did not exceed 400USD per month. Wifi and electricity not included. Electricity is around 200USD per month and Wifi is around 50USD per month. The challenge while securing the apartment was that no one told us that we had to get the electricity plan and insurance before getting the apartment. Lease application getting approved isnt a promise that you will get the apartment. You need to have these thigns in place before you get the keys. Look for accommodation close to the bus routes rather than the university. Bus routes will decide how easy your life is going to be in cities like Houston. Most of the indian students stay near the NRG stadium and that is the right thing to do if you have limited money to spend in the early years.
Likes
- The events on campus and inside the on campus apartment building in the leasing office and the architecture building.
Dislikes
- They could have better options for international students to ease loan debt process.
- Better scholarship options for us to choose from and pay our bills on time.
Campus Life
Several activities are happening on campus, especially if you live on campus, and it’s easier to access all, too. We have a really large library on campus that is really peaceful to study in and to take prints as well. Wi-Fi is available throughout campus- guest and student/faculty. You have a large recreation centre on campus with an extensive gym, pool, playing courts, etc.
Accommodation
There are several options for on-campus housing, which can be found on the UH website, and off campus, you have Med Center Apts. , Scotland Apts. , Stratford Apts. among the few that are most taken especially among Indians. The rents start at a minimum of 650$ to 700$ for any kind of accommodation, but that may change depending on how many people will stay with you and how you split the bill. I would suggest contacting someone who lives in one of those apartments to know the cost deduction better

- This University has a great program and the fee is moderate. Also the location's weather is similar to my own country.
- Diversity. People from different cultures, countries and there is always something going on on the campus everyday. Great opportunities for networking, gaining knowledge.
Dislikes
- Not many but I stayed around 5Miles from University, sometimes you could not find proper transportation. Little expensive to live in the University dorms.
Campus Life
There are many clubs on campus and there is place for everyone. One event or the other is going on the campus everyday.
Accommodation
I had a shared room which helped me to reduce the expenses. We had all the appliances installed. Average rentals will be around $600/month including groceries if shared.
