Ms. Kavita Krishnadas is the Head of the Department of English at Rajagiri College of Management and Applied Sciences. She holds a B.A. and an M.A. degree in English Language and Literature. Moreover, she is currently pursuing a PhD degree. She joined Rajagiri College of Management and Applied Sciences in 2012 and has proved her unparalleled dexterity in organising many academic events ever since. Under her leadership, the department has witnessed a growth in research output, increased student engagement, and the successful launch of interdisciplinary programs. Known for her approachability and genuine passion for literature, Ms. Kavitha Krishnadas is admired by both students and colleagues alike. Her leadership style is characterized by transparency, open communication, and a commitment to nurturing the professional growth of her team. Her areas of specialisation are Women and Literature, History of English Literature and Communicative English.

Analysing literature fosters critical thinking and the ability to interpret and evaluate complex texts. Studying literature hones communication skills, enabling students to articulate ideas clearly and persuasively. Studying Communicative English and Journalism provides hands-on experience in effective verbal and written communication, essential for various professional settings. Analysing literature enhances media literacy by examining how narratives shape perceptions and influence society. Students also gain a deep understanding of media structures, ethics, and the role of journalism in shaping public opinion.
What are some valuable insights of the program that you are offering at your institute/dept.?
Literary research instils comprehensive research skills, including accessing and evaluating diverse sources. Studying literature provides insights into diverse cultures, fostering empathy and cultural awareness. Understanding various cultural contexts is crucial for effective communication in a globalized world.
How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?
We encourage engaging with literary communities as it provides networking opportunities for aspiring writers, editors, and academics. The combination of these disciplines opens doors to a wide array of career options, including journalism, public relations, content creation, editing, teaching, and more.
How did you train yourself/faculty to deliver this program to the students?
We are a team of 11 members. I can proudly say that we learn from one another, focusing on our thrust areas. We conduct frequent peer teaching and learning amongst us. Seminars and workshops, and group discussions on innovative teaching learning methods are also attended and discussed. All this ensures that we are at pace with the needs of the age and era.

What are the types of projects that the students are working on through this program?
Through this programme we offer three mains – Literature, Communication and Journalism. The students are advised to take internships, which enhance their practical knowledge too. An On The Job Training is compulsory as part of their syllabus, wherein the students get real work experience working in respective industries.

When you came to college, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same?
My vision was to envisage a dynamic and innovative environment committed to nurturing a community of critical thinkers, creative communicators, and lifelong learners. We aspire to be a centre of excellence, inspiring a passion for language, literature, and cultural understanding that transcends boundaries and empowers individuals to make meaningful contributions to a diverse and interconnected world.
What made you decide to become a teacher?
I truly believe a teacher is someone who can have a lifelong impact on students. My aim is to nurture my students and foster critical thinking, communication skills, and a lifelong appreciation for learning. As a teacher, I can encourage students to explore their imagination, write creatively, and engage with literature in ways that resonate with their own experiences. There is a joy in witnessing the growth and success of my students and knowing that I am positively instrumental in shaping the academic and personal development of young minds and that is incredibly fulfilling in itself.
