National Testing Agency (NTA) is in charge of conducting JEE Main 2020. The national level examination will be conducted twice a year (January and April) in online (computer-based) mode. The January session is scheduled from January 6 – 11, 2020.

Around 4000 Schools / Engineering colleges have been set up as Test Practice Centers (TPCs). The TPCs have been in operation since September 1, 2019 and can be utilized on all saturdays/sundays. Earlier, there was an option to appear for JEE Main in offline mode as well. But, this year, candidates must take the test via online mode only. A lot of candidates especially from rural areas might not be aware of the computer system. In order to avoid such a problem, NTA has established a network of test practice centers  to ensure that candidates get familiar to functionalities of the computer-based test through mock tests.   • Students can register themselves from anywhere in the country, either through the official NTA Website (nta.ac.in) or through the ‘NTA Student’ App available on the playstore. They can avail of a TPC option nearest to their location. 
  • Candidates are notified about the TPC that has been alloted to them one day before the practice date via sms. In the TPC that has been assigned to them, they can practice and gain more awareness about how to actually take a computerized based test. 
  • Candidates can practice through the mock tests that are available for individuals preparing for JEE (Main) so that they can get familiar with the login process, the detailed test instructions, screen navigation, and edition and submission of questions. 

Institute registration to function as TPC 

The following are minimum infrastructual facilities required from an institute / school / college: 

  • 30 computers and more with necessary software 
  • Local Area Netword (LAN) or internet at all PCs with about 1 Mbps bandwidth
  • Power backup for at least 30 minutes of working 
  • Labs / Rooms for TPC 
  • Necessary Furniture 
  • Necessary manpower for ensuring uninterrupted working of all units

Set to conduct a total five entrance tests including Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), National Eligibility Entrance Test –Undergraduate (NEET-UG), University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET), Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) and Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT) in 2020, the NTA, in a press release dated July 7, 2018, announced its plans that have been designed to bring about qualitative difference in the entrance examination process. The highlights of the announcement are:

  • JEE Main to be conducted twice a year in computer based mode.
  • As per the latest updates, NEET UG will be conducted once a year in pen-paper mode. Know more
  • The tests will be conducted in multiple slots/settings and candidates will be able to choose a convenient date from the examination schedule.
  • Scores across settings will be equated using standardization techniques.
  • To secure delivery of tests, advanced encryption software will be deployed.
  • Testing will adopt a scientific approach with subject matter experts and psychometric specialists coming together to design test papers.
  • A network of 3000 practice centres in rural areas will be set up to acquaint candidates of the online examination system.
