NEET UG 2025 registration is over and the number of candidates signing up has significantly decreased. Till now only 23 lakh candidates have registered which shows a decline from previous years 24.06 lakhs. This means that the number of students appearing will be much lesser decreasing the competition in NEET 2025. This year there are a total of 1.20 lakh MBBS seats, so there will be a competition between about 19 candidates for each seat, whereas last year this number was 20.30.  

Pankaj Khandelwal, who runs a form-filling centre in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, says that the final figure of registration was around 23.40 lakh late at night. “Some candidates did not complete the registration due to lack of documents. In such a situation, it is estimated that only around 23 lakh registrations will be considered complete,” he said.

As per Private counsellor Sonu Kumar “The pace of registration has increased rapidly in the first five days of March, during which four to five lakh registrations have been done. At present the registrations are around 23 lakh, but the number of candidates appearing for the exam may be 60 to 70 thousand less,”

How many candidates appeared for NEET?

As per the last year reports, a record 23.81 lakh candidates registered for NEET UG 2024. Out of the total applicants, 13,63,213 are female, 10,18,593 are male, and 24 belong to the third gender. A total of 2333162 candidates appeared for the NEET UG 2024 exam. Of which 998205 were male candidates, 1334940 were female candidates and 17 were third-gender. The NEET (UG) 2024 re-exam was conducted for 1563 candidates, with 813 of them appearing for the exam.
