Ques. What if I qualify for NEET but my score is below the previous year's cutoff—does that mean no seat?

Ans. The cutoffs vary yearly based on the difficulty, number of candidates, and seat availability. In tougher years, the cutoff drops due to fewer candidates scoring high scores. Qualifying for the NEET UG exam does not guarantee a seat due to limited MBBS/BDS seats. However, it will make ways to AYUSH, BVSc, and allied courses.

Ques. If I qualify for NEET 2026 but my score is just above the qualifying cutoff, what are the realistic chances for a government MBBS seat under 15% AIQ?

Ans. The chances for a government seat for a general category candidate are very low, as the cutoff for the general category often requires 600+ marks for top government colleges. However, there is a chance for the reserved category candidates as the cutoff for the reserved seat will be relaxed.

FAQs

Ques. Can my NEET UG result be challenged or re-evaluated after declaration?

Ans. No, as per the NTA guidelines, the NEET UG results will not be re-evaluated or re-checked, as the OMRs are machine gradable and are being evaluated through specific software impartial to all the candidates.

Ques. What happens if two or more candidates have the exact same score and percentile?

Ans. In case two or more candidates have the exact same score, NTA will use the tie-breaking rule. This rule will be applied in a certain order, i.e. Higher marks in biology will be given preference over others. The detailed tie-breaking rules are given in this article above. You can refer to that.

Ques. Is the NEET scorecard valid for more than one year?

Ans. No, the NEET scorecard will only be valid for the current admission year, i.e. 2026-27, in which the exam is conducted. However, if a candidate wants to study MBBS abroad, the NEET scorecard is valid for 3 years.

Ques. Why might my All India Rank (AIR) differ from my category rank, and how does it affect counselling?

Ans. The All India Rank is the overall rank across all the categories, while the category rank is within your reserved category. Both ranks are considered for counselling under the All India Quota (15%), but the category rank matters more for the reserved seats.

Ques. Can I use my NEET result for admissions outside MBBS/BDS (e.g., B.Sc Nursing or veterinary)?

Ans. Yes, the NEET scores can be used for admissions outside the MBBS/BDS courses, such as B.Sc Nursing and Veterinary Science. The counselling for the Veterinary courses will be conducted by the Veterinary Council of India.
