Ans. Hi, everyone! Today, I'm excited to share the placement scenario of IIT Delhi in 2022. In 2022, almost every company visited and offered high CTCs to students. IIT Delhi broke its own placement record! According to the official report , a total of 1,250 offers were made during Phase 1 of IIT Delhi placements 2022. This is the highest number of offers ever received. The report also mentioned around 180 PPOs. Seven students opted for deferred placements (for startups and entrepreneurship) in Phase 1 of IIT Delhi placements 2021-22. Additionally, 40 international offers were made during Phase 1 of IIT Delhi placements 2021-22. I'm currently pursuing my B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering at IIT Delhi, and I can say the curriculum is designed to prepare us for real-world applications, especially if you're interested in AI/ML like I am. The faculty here is top-notch, and they really focus on making us understand concepts deeply. Regarding placements in 2025, I think the IIT tag definitely gives us an edge, but with the current recession, it's a bit tough. It really boils down to our CGPA and soft skills. Ans. 80-90 percentile in JEE Main 2024 will roughly translate to a rank between 1,50,000 to 3,00,000. Here is the previous year cutoff for B.Tech admission at IIIT Delhi to give you a basic idea of the cutoff trends (for general category)- JEE MAIN cutoff 2023 for B.Tech admission at IIIT Delhi (General Category) Branch HS  OS  B.Tech Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence 8,416 - B.Tech Computer Science Engineering 11,874 - B.Tech Computer Science and Applied Mathematics 14,725 5,489 B.Tech Computer Science and Design 17,905 7,454 B.Tech Computer Science and Social Sciences 22,859 7,896 B.Tech Computer Science and Biosciences 23,771 8,304 B.Tech Electronics & Communication Engineering 26,762 8,670 B.Tech Electronics & VLSI Engineering 30,593 10,141 As evident from the table, the JEE Main cutoff at IIIT Delhi is quite high (between 5,489-10,141 for OS candidates, and 8,416-30,593 for HS candidates).  Therefore, it is unfortunately highly unlikely for you to get an admission into IIIT Delhi for a B.Tech program with 90 percentile in JEE Main 2024.  This is especially true if you are a general category candidate.Read more

Ques. Is it true that IIIT Delhi is very strict, completely academic-oriented, and only people with very high interest in a CSE should only join there?

Ans. Academics is the top most priority of IIIT Delhi. Everything else takes a backseat. This may be because it is branded as a research institute.  If you wish to pursue research in CSE or complete your MS/Ph.D. from a foreign university, choose IIIT Delhi. Academically, IIITD is comparable to IIT Bombay, IIIT Hyderabad, etc. But don’t choose IIIT Delhi if you are planning for an MBA later on. In this case, you might end up dropping out due to a loss of interest in this course. As for placements, more than 95% of B.Tech CSE students are placed each year. However, very few non-tech companies visit the campus. As ECE receives very few core companies, students from both branches compete against each other for tech jobs. Based on your own priorities and goals, decide whether or not to choose IIITD for your CSE course.Read more

Ques. Is CSE at IIIT Delhi really a core CS course or an IT based course?

Ans. I am a first-year CSE student at IIIT Delhi. All the related subjects in CSE have more theory than required by an average Computer Engineer.  Here are some details on each subject you’ll learn during the 1st and 2nd semesters of this course: 1st semester- System Management: You’ll learn the theory part through video lectures. You’ll learn a lot about concepts like the Anatomy of a recording disk, the difference between file systems, etc. The practical work will include disassembling an electronic device, video presentations, hardware projects, general shell scripting, etc. Intro to Programming: It is a usual programming language course. You’ll learn a lot of theory in it. Digital Circuits: You’ll study theory about the smallest of operations possible in a processor and basic computer architecture.  Linear Algebra: It is a math course, but a prerequisite for courses like Image Processing. It includes a lot of theory. 2nd semester- Computer Organization: You’ll learn Computer Architecture in this. The subject is more theoretical and less practical. You won’t have regular labs. But the prescribed book for this subject is pretty good. Data Structures and Algorithms: It is the best subject according to me. You’ll learn concepts, pseudo concepts, time and space complexities in lectures, and actual codes in lab sessions. By describing each subject during the first year of CSE, I tried to resolve your query to some extent. The curriculum will move forward in a similar manner for the remaining years.Read more

Ques. What should I choose between CSD at IIIT Delhi and IT at DTU?

Ans. CSD and IT have practically the same core subjects. You’ll have a similar curriculum in either of the options. Unless you have a strong interest in the design aspect of CSD, the choice is mainly between the two colleges. IIITD is very research-oriented. It has state-of-the-art research labs and facilities. You’ll be exposed to dedicated and active research groups over there. Academics are taken quite seriously. You’ll study your subjects in depth for the next 4-5 years.  At DTU on the other hand, academics are very laid back. You’ll get lots of time for extracurriculars. You can polish your skills in the area of your interest.  If you are sure to build a future in Computer Science, join IIIT Delhi. But if you wish to explore yourself, and polish your skills in some other field, join DTU. Read more
