CSIR-NIScPR Hosts Workshop on Spreading Science-based Stories Through Radio

New Delhi: The CSIR- National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (NIScPR) organizes a workshop to provide the Science Medical Communication Cell (SMCC) with insightful knowledge from distinguished professionals. The goal of the training was to equip PhD students and SMCC staff with efficient radio communication techniques for S&T tales. The session took place at Vivekananda Hall.

The Chief Scientist and Acting Director of CSIR-NIScPR, Dr. Sujit Bhattacharya, stressed the use of radio in science communication as a means of bridging the public's understanding of scientific research. "Such training equips the SMCC with the essential tools and methods to communicate difficult science and technology knowledge in a clear, captivating, and approachable manner through radio broadcasts," he continued.

Manoj Mainkar, Program Executive at All India Radio, New Delhi Station shared his valuable insights on crafting compelling science narratives for the audio format. He delved into the essential elements of vocal delivery, including voice quality (VQ), Voice emotional quotient (VEQ), and texture. He addressed the importance of clear pronunciation, engaging delivery, and effective use of modern spoken language, both English and Hindi, to connect with diverse audiences and make science stories come alive for radio listeners.

A summary of the goals, approach, and some tangible results of SMCC was given by Dr Manish Mohan Gore, Scientist, CSIR-NIScPR, and Principal Investigator, SMCC. He talked about the orientation workshop's goal. The SMCC project manager, Shri Kuldeep Dhatwalia, project staff members, and PhD students engaged fully in the workshop and gained a great deal of knowledge from the expert.
