What are the worst things about SGGSIE T Nanded?

One of the worst things about SGGSIE&T Nanded for Mechanical Engineering is definitely the faculty inconsistency. I started my course with just two teachers available, and it felt like they didn’t understand our needs or how to effectively teach us. Thankfully, they hired new faculty in my second year, and they were much better, but that initial experience was quite frustrating. The exams are manageable, but the teaching quality was a real concern at first.

I graduated from SGGSIE T Nanded in 2017, so I've got some insights. Like any place, it's got its ups and downs. Since you asked about the downsides, here's what I felt was the biggest issue: the mindset of some of the teachers towards education. A lot of them don't seem interested in learning new things or doing research. You'd often find them hanging out in groups at the tea spots on campus, just doing the job for the paycheck rather than out of any passion for teaching or learning.

There are a handful who are actively involved in research, but sadly, it seems like about 90% are just there to collect their salary. It's not just the contract staff; even the senior faculty seem to do little and often blame others for any issues. Contract staff often get treated poorly by them too.

Their routine seems to be: come to college, drink tea, maybe go to a lecture and scold students without actually teaching anything, drink more tea, chat, have more tea, and then head home. It feels like they don't really care about the students' futures. I can't really blame the administration because the higher-ups are generally good people.

There's one particular faculty member, whom I'll call Bhau, who stands out. For both the 2016 and 2017 batches, he didn't take a single lecture despite being on the schedule. Only contract teachers showed up to teach, and he got away with it because of his influence. His attitude suggests he thinks students don't need to learn from him. I really don't get how someone like him can sleep at night or feel okay taking money for doing nothing. It's pretty disappointing.

In my experience studying Computer Science Engineering, the internship opportunities are pretty limited. While some students do manage to secure good internships, many of us end up looking off-campus because the college doesn’t provide enough support or connections for internships. This limits our practical exposure, which is crucial for learning and job prospects after graduation.

A few professors at the institute have really let down both education and students with their attitudes. They sometimes use students for their own benefit. Every department seems to have one or two individuals whose actions have severely affected students, pushing some to the brink of despair. For instance, there's Prof. Shetty in the IT Department. Many professors conduct exaggerated research projects for their own gain, using MTech and PhD students almost like unpaid workers. Some young contractual faculty excel in teaching technical subjects, but many are hired through connections, often influenced by caste.

Despite being a government-funded college, the fees are quite high, especially for MTech students. Everyone has to pay ?3000 per year for the bus service, even if they never use it. There's a noticeable emphasis on favoritism and flattery over honest efforts. Many Sikh students come from the gurdwara quota and often have average academic habits. Some indulge in unfair practices during exams without fear of consequences, as they use violence, politics, and money to silence opposition. This has tarnished the community's reputation at the institute. There’s a lot of corruption in exams, infrastructure projects, and the selection processes for PhD students and staff.

Girls face restrictions and have been harassed by outsiders and even some from within the college. People in administrative positions sometimes misuse their power to alter student marks. While some departments like CSE, ETC, Mech, and Instru are good, others lag behind. A few contractual faculty members are truly dedicated, but some behave inappropriately with students. Non-IT and CSE branches have fewer placement opportunities. There's more focus on infrastructure than on improving education quality. Many senior professors spend their time chatting in the cafeteria instead of engaging with students.

The college, which is supposed to be a Government Autonomous Institute, often leaves students feeling let down. At first glance, the infrastructure might deceive you with its beautiful green lawns and charming buildings, making it seem like a paradise. However, the reality behind the scenes is quite different.

If you're used to a lively lifestyle, you'll probably find this place lacking in genuine fun. There's not much of a learning environment; even though the professors have PhDs, they mostly teach just to help you get a decent CGPA. Many people here are overly focused on getting good grades. You might end up putting in a lot of effort just for the sake of your marks.

The RNXG students seem like they're on another level, managing everything effortlessly. Simple website projects are seen as advanced web development, and basic bots are considered high-level robotics. Only a few students truly become skilled engineers. For most, around 90% of the people you meet won't meet any high expectations you might have. So, think carefully before deciding.
