Should I go for B.Tech Civil Engineering in MNNIT Allahabad or B.Tech Electronics & Communication Engineering in NIT Surathkal?

NIT Allahabad boasts one of the best placement scenarios among NITs.

• In 2020, the average placement for the CSE branch was 18 LPA, while the IT branch saw an average of 17 LPA.
• The highest package in Electrical Engineering reached 49 LPA, and in ECE, it was 39 LPA.

This highlights the strong coding culture at NIT Allahabad. Despite its average infrastructure, it remains a dream college for many aspirants from North India!

I feel that if you're leaning towards B.Tech in Civil Engineering, MNNIT Allahabad offers solid internships with reputable companies like Amazon and Goldman Sachs, but tech placements are better for branches like CS and ECE, so the job prospects might be a bit limited for civil. On the other hand, B.Tech in Electronics & Communication Engineering at NIT Surathkal tends to have a stronger placement record overall, with good exposure to tech firms and core companies alike. Given that, if you're aiming for a broader range of job opportunities and higher package prospects, NIT Surathkal might be the better choice. But if you're passionate about civil engineering and willing to navigate a more niche job market, MNNIT could still be a strong option.

I'm a student at NITK, so I can share insights about the placement scenario at NITK Surathkal. I can't comment on MNNIT Allahabad since I haven't been there. Here’s a summary of the placements from the last academic year:

• CSE has an average package close to Rs. 13 lakh.
• IT has an average package around Rs. 10 lakh.

This data excludes off-campus offers that students have received, and a small percentage also pursue further studies abroad. Overall, the placement scenario here is quite decent.

In terms of ROI, if you’re leaning towards a tech-centric career, NIT Surathkal is likely the smarter financial choice due to better placement prospects and a higher likelihood of securing lucrative internships. If you have a strong passion for civil engineering, then MNNIT could still be a good fit, but overall, NIT Surathkal edges ahead for those focused on electronics and tech.
