Course Curriculum Overview
The course for the 3 year graduation program has been desined very well. In the fist year we were introduced to political theory, indian politics and constitution. In the second year, we did public administration, international relations and comparative politics. In the third year, we got to study ancient and modern western and indian political theory and thought. One thing that I really enjoyed was the Generic Elective(GE) subjects that we were offered in the fisrt two years. We were offered to choose a GE subject from various courses ranging from physics to philosophy and from mathematics to history.
Placement Experience
There is a Placement Cell of Ramjas College. It holds its summits and interviews every year. Students especially from the commerce stream get a lot of jon opprtunities and get placements in good companies.
College Events
There are many events and extra-curricular activities held in the college: 1. ORIENTATION: Every year orientation is held for the newly admitted students. It is held in the very first day of college, mostly around 20th of july. 2. FRESHERS: Two freshers are held every year for the students, one by the college and one by the individual departments. The freshers by the college is held on a great scale with many fun activities, fashion shows, night parties, EDMs, and food stalls. The freshers by the departments are held at a smaller scale but no less in entertainment. There are lots and lots of games and activities played and unique awards distributed, a lunch and disco dance is also arranged. 3. FESTS: These are annual festivals celebrated by the college and individual departments. Any student can participate in the fests of any department. There are academic seminars, guest talks, competitions relating to art, craft, poetry and writing, treasure hunts and many other fun activities. At the end of each game awards and cash prizes are distributed. 4. ANNUAL TRIPS: There are trips held by every department for every batch. There are one-day trips usually in and around Delhi and there are long-day trips where the student's union of the department arranges a long-day trip according to the places selected by them in discussion with the students. The trip is partially sponsored by the department, therefore, we get to enjoy beautiful places and hang out with our friends at a very low price. 5. FAREWELLS: Last but not the least, there are farewells given to every outgoing batch. They are truly happening and joyful. The juniors arrange all this and give different titles to their seniors. We also receive out convocation hats from the faculty members.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee is very feasible. You can get a 3-year graduation degree with a fee of just 10k annually. There are literally no other charges levied on students for exams or other things. Students also contribute for freshers, annual trips and farewells, but it is completely voluntary.
Fees and Financial Aid
The college does provide a scholarship or partial fee exemption for economically disadvantaged students. Eligible students from reserved and unreserved category can also avail national and state level scholarships and the college serves as a nodal institute where all the documents are provided and verified and scholarship is credited to the student's bank account.
Campus Life
Ramjas has lots and lots of socities which cover various extra-curricular activities. These include dance society, drama society, photography society, debating society, entrepreneurship cell and individual societies for every department. Ramjas has a seperate ECA room dedicated for all these activities. Attendence grants are also given for those who participate in these activities and who can produce a valid record verified by the society. SPORTS: The college is really good in sports as well. We have a seperate sports room and gym for students. They can participate in various sports competitions that are held regularly, including football, cricket, volleyball, badminton, etc. Sports trials are also held for admissions based on sports and ECA quota.
Hostel Facilities
Ramjas College is one of the few colleges in the university which has hostel for both boys and girls. Even some of the most reputed DU colleges do not have hostels for girls. Also there are no "curfew timings" for female hostelers. The hostel infrastructure is good compared to the hostel fee. The mess food is also good. Admission to the hostel is given on the basis of requirement, marks, and various other selection criterias. From each batch of each department there are around 5 seats reserved for the hostel.
Alumni/Alumna
The seniors are really helpful from the admission process to the studies. The may provide you their class notes and books and recommend you some good ones. The college has a huge library and department libraries for students to issue books and reference materials. We have an alumni society as well.
Exam Structure
There are bi-annual examinations every semester, that is twice per session. The exams are of 75 marks, 10 marks are for two assignments/tests held every semester and 5 marks for attendence. Therefore, every semester is of 100 marks and results are declared for every semester. There are a total of 6 semesters.
Admission
After I filled the DU UG Admission Form, I waited for the cut-offs. I could clear the second cut-off which was 96% and my best of four was 96.5%. I visited the college after the second cut-off came. There I went to the room where admissions for political science were being held. The professors scrutinized my documents and granted me provisional admission. Once this was done I went to the Committee Room where the forensic checking of the documents was being held. I was called and once all the documents were declared original they gave me an acknowledgement slip. The next day I submitted the online fee through the link on the UG Admission Portal and finally my admission was done.
Faculty
Overall the faculty is great but the faculties for history and political science is exceptional and one of the best in the entire university. Since I has chosen History as my GE course I got to learn a lot from both the faculties. There are many teachers who do not teach just because its their duty or because they are getting paid, but because they love to teach and they teach so passionately.
