Remarks
Campus is extremely beautiful but the maintenance section is very slow. It takes a lot of time to complete any sort of maintenance work. Overall institute is very clean and infrastructure is also better than most of the colleges.
Course Curriculum Overview
Curriculum is a bit hectic. A lot of things are covered in relatively short time but the environment here at IIT Guwahati is extremely great. 3-4 classes are held daily 5 days a week of one hour each. Some branches have 1-3 labs in a week of 3 hours each. There are quizzes of approximately 10% weigtage each conducted regularly as per the wish of the professor. Then there are mid-semester and end-semester examinations whose weightage is decided by the professor. There is relative grading in most of the courses and its done on Cumulative GPA scale.
Placement Experience
IIT Guwahati has a strong coding culture so most of the companies hiring from here are IT based but some are core based too. Most often stipend/package is very good. College also provide internship opportunities which are mostly academic. I haven't had any experience yet because I am in 3rd semester but some students did projects with their professors after the second semester during the summer break. So, yes college offers many opportunities to those who seek.
College Events
There is a technical fest called Techniche which is the largest techno management fest in northeast India then there is a cultural fest called Alcheringa which is the largest cultural fest in northeast India. Both events experience huge footfall from all over India. Then there is Udgam the entrepreneurship fest. There is Research Conclave to showcase different projects. There are inter-hostel fests too called Kriti, Manthan and Spardha which are technical, cultural and sports fest respectively.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fees isn't quite affordable for lower-middle class families, however there is a concession offered for students with annual family income less than 5 lakhs per annum. Loans are easily available just by the name of IIT Guwahati and if the student is talented he might land a package many times more than his/her fee for entire study.
Fees and Financial Aid
College offers scholarship to department toppers. There are other scholarships like McM anf many others which are not offered by college but the students can easily avail. Loans are not offered by the college but banks offer the loan at low interest rate and often without interest rate if vidya laxmi scheme is applicable.
Campus Life
Extra-curricular activities are great here at IIT Guwahati. Almost every sport facility is available. Students are encouraged to go out and play, even course curriculum has sports activity courses for some semesters.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni networks are extremely strong and helpful. There are regular talks with the alumni who share their experience at the college and at the companies too. If a student has a connection with an alumni he/she can easily land a good internship/jib Opportunity.
Admission
To get into an IIT students have to pass India's toughest entrance examination which is Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). JEE mains for admissions into NITs and JEE advanced for IITs. After that depending on the student's rank decided by marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Maths section of JEE JoSAA(Joint Seat Allocation Authority) carries out counselling for admission into IITs and NITs and if one secures a good rank in JEE advanced he/she would be able to secure a seat in an IIT.
Faculty
Some of the Faculty are good and some are worst in terms of management and relation with their students. There are some faculties which are very friendly, some teach very nicely and use a fair grading scale but on the other hand there are some faculties which might not be that friendly and kind of boring when it comes to teaching.
