IIT GUWAHATI

I had only with my college regarding funding to various big patents and projects that needs to funded properly are not getting that much. I also request to develop the state of art infrastructure for more research opportunities for our PhD, MTech, Btech final year students and can make a new path to research.

The course structure, I personally don't like in 1st year due to lack of latest generation of study. Overall the corse structure, not much focus on research domains except in last year there we have do our research project. The exams, labs and academic is very strict that makes our schedule very hectic. I mean it starts from 7 o'clock to 12 o'clock and again from 2 o'clock to 5 o'clock leaving us very tired.

Placements and job opportunities are quite good at IITs. Our college also provides us internship opportunities through the coming various companies in 3rd year. I am in first year so doesn't get internship yet but heard great from seniors that stipend may go up to 1 lac per month. All major companies like Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Adobe, Uber, Tata, Ola, Facebook etc and almost 80% got placed till the end of the placement season. In our branch, almost 100% placement occurs that is very boasting for us.

Our college sponsors a large number of events including all domains as tech, cultural, entrepreneurship, sports, intern fairs etc. The Major Events of IIT GUWAHATI are listed as - Techniche annual techno-management fest, Alcheringa - one of the largest cultural fest in Asia, Udgam - international level entrepreneurship meet with full events, inter hostel fests similar in all the three domains such as Spardha (sports), Kriti (tech), Manthan (cultural), famous inter IIT meet in all the three domains.

I found the fees to be expensive but it is far less by private institutions in India present today the tuition fees for one semester is 1 lakh and rest charges that include hostel, academic fees, rent, etc comes to be about 35000 INR.

There are many scholarship and loan facilities provide by IITs and our college but they are mostly focused on economically deprived classes. I availed loan facility on tuition fees this scheme makes the loan interest free as my family annual income is less than 9 lakhs that make me eligible. My total tuition fees are 8 lacs for the whole course and I have to pay the loan after my job gets secured. This relieves burden from my family and my parents can be tense free for money to be paid through this loan.

Extracurricular events is at hype in every IITs and same to us as there is always an event going on in some part of our campus. There are a lot of clubs 11 clubs under the technical board,10 clubs under cultural, many sports in sports board, every club is quite to deliever knowledge to the campus people. The student community is very diverse at our college with regards To Gender, Ethnicity, Race, Religion, Sexual Orientation, Politics and Economic Status.

Yes, I have opted for hostel and the infrastructure is very good and we are also provided with single rooms which are unique to IIT Guwahati from other IIT as others have shared rooms. The room is also far very spacious and all hostel comes with the divide with quarters with lane wise bathrooms and sports ground per quarter. The rooms come with inbuilt almirah, bed and table, chairs, fan, light and rooms are really well furnished and the cleaning of the rooms occurs weekly makes it really clean.

College seniors are very helping and they are always forward to help us in academics or even tech and club activities. they became very helpful in placement peak time and other events in career when the experience is needed. In my short journey in my college, I have experienced the interaction with alumnus only twice which is quite disgusting and I want some more attention to alumnus for the future development of us and our friends.

In my college, Admission is through JEE - ADVANCED examination conducted by different IITs under JEE council board. There were two steps both having merit list, first one was JEE MAIN conducted by MHRD, NTA then comes JEE_ADVANCED and those students who qualified in a specific range of ranks are proceeded further for admission in IITs through JoSSA counselling and various steps including document Verification and ordering of your preferences of IITs, and finally authorised letter by JoSSA that is required during admission process in IIT.

The faculty of IITs are well known by everybody and are quite educated to a great level but most of them are much focused towards their research and other stuff and that's why they make the lecture part quite boring but some of them are good at teaching and makes lecture very interesting. In my course, I found have met till date only 2 professors to be having teaching attitude. Overall The faculties are well educated and are able to handle all workload of academics and are well enthusiastic for the research part which is quite necessary for our nation.
