Remarks
It's a great college if you're really interested in the field. But the treatment here is a bit harsh and the environment is totally different from any other Engineering college because that is what makes you tuff and fit for working on ships.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course is very good and to be very honest interesting if you want to learn things. All the labs or workshops here are very informative all you need is the will to learn. The schedule is hectic as you'll have to main a balance between your academics as well as your fitness because that's what you need on ship. Life is not easy there so this College makes you tuff and prepares you to rule the sea. The exams pattern and syllabus is good and for research purposes all you need to keep in mind is that sea is a never ending voyage which you'll start enjoying if you'll get to know how deep it is.
Placement Experience
The intake is generally around 250 out of which 120 130 are placed from college i. e in the companies that comes in the college for placements. The rest gets their placement from other shipping companies in Mumbai via reference(as our alumini network is very strong)or external examinations.
College Events
Republic Day, Independence day celebration, IMU foundation day, fests like Tempest and lit-o-sphere are celebrated here every year. Being a paramilitary college most of the focus are on Republic and independence day celebration as we have a proper parade and flag hoisting ceremony. Still the cultural fest like Tempest has hundreds of participants participating in different events from all over the state. The literature fest Lit-o-sphere is a new and a successful one which includes Debate, Extempore, MUN, open mic and many more literary events.
Fees and Financial Aid
Yes there's scholarship opportunities in the college. There's one SCI scholarship by the Shipping Corporation of India which help the Poor SC ST students to complete their academics. Performance based rewards are also given here. The Top ranker is awarded with Rs 1 lakh the next 29 students with Rs 75000/- and the next 30 with Rs 50000/-
Campus Life
There's a great scope of sports here as there are well maintained cricket hockey football basketball and volleyball ground here with proper coaching. Addition to this there's also a swimming pool with instructors. On the academic side it has workshop, electrical and electronics lab, simulation lab, fire and safety lab, Mechanical and chemical engineering lab, Computer lab etc. It has also got a music room with various musical instruments for the music lovers.
Alumni/Alumna
It has a small yet very powerful alumni network. Even after years the passout are given a great respect and their reference is all you need for the placement. Many Shipping companies belongs to the passouts of this college and many seniors and passouts are requiters in famous shipping companies.
Admission
There's a Common Entrance Test conducted every year by the Indian Maritime University based on that rank every student gets to choose his/her college and course. Mostly all the top rankers who wishes to do Btech in Marine field takes admission here. If anyone has interest in this field then this is one of the best college for him/her in the country. Btech on the other hand deals with the Engine department and this also opens many alternatives if any individual wants to leave or take break from the field. Physics chemistry maths English and general aptitude is what one needs to know to crack the Entrance exam or what we call is CET.
Faculty
Faculty are okay but to be very honest once you're here you should not rely on them much and try to make your way on your own. There are times when the classes are off or not conducted properly but you should not be disheartened by that because I think it's the scenario of almost every college. If you're here to learn you'll learn it anyhow. For reference purposes they're helpful no doubt.
