PICT- A world full of opportunities

The best thing about PICT is that no matter what your interests are, there's always a place for you. There are photographers, writers, singers, actors, graphic designers, programmers, all in one campus. You get plenty of opportunities to showcase your talent. Whenever you need any advice, there are seniors, and teachers who are always ready to help you.

The course covers all the subjects of the stream thouroughout all the years. The core subjects are adequately distributed thouroughout the semesters. There are a total of 4 exams in each semester per subject- the in sem(30 marks), the end sem(70 marks), the practical exams, and a unit test. The unit tests are a part of the college curriculum and other exams are evaluation parameters by SPPU. These exams never put the students under pressure, they are just a way of evaluating the students' performance. Most of the university toppers are from PICT.

PICT is widely known for it's job opportunities. Every year, close to a 100 companies visit PICT and hire students. There are also ample internship opportunities provided by the college itself and also from companies. Many reputed companies like Amazon, Deutsche Bank, Siemens Industry Software, Microsoft, Barclay's, HSBC, Yahoo Japan, Rakuten, Bizreach, etc. come year round to hire the students. I am placed at Siemens Industry Software for a stipend of 9LPA

Thouroughout the year, numerous events are held at PICT. Ranging from technical events like Pulzion, Credenz and INC to cultural events like Addiction, Abhivyakti, students participate in every event with zest. Pictoreal, the annual college magazine of PICT, is also an organization that holds multiple events like Art and Photography Exhibition, Blood Donation, Career Guidance seminars, etc. I'm myself a part of this organization since four years. It has really helped me develop as a person, build up skills like leadership and team work. I started as just a team member in my first year, then I was made an event coordinator in second year, the design team head in third year, and currently I'm the Joint Secretary.

The average fees for the college is 1 Lac. The hostels, though a bit expensive, offer a large number of facilities to the students- WiFi, Housekeeping staff, 24 hours electricity and water supply, lunch and dinner at the canteen, and the most important of all, the security.

Waiver schemes are available which can be used by students belonging to certain reserved categories and also who cannot afford to pay the tuition fees(TFWS scheme). There isn't any loan facility available here.

The labs are well equipped and the students can also sit in labs even after college hours to do their work-projects and research. There are multiple sports events held thouroughout the year. Though the college ground is small in area, it is always utilised to the full by students as well as staff. The hostels also provide with indoor games like Carrom, Chess. There is a gymnasium which can be utilised by students.

I had opted for the college hostel for the first thouree years here, they don't have hostel facility for final year students. The girls hostel here is a recently constructed building (just 2 years old) and one can say it provides complete comfort to the students. The WiFi, electricity and running water are available all the time. There's a separate housekeeping staff which is responsible for maintaining Cleanliness in the hostel premises and also in the rooms. Security is maintained to a T here, no one can leave the hostel after 10pm, before going to home, the students have to fill out forms, in which they have to mention their parents' contact. This ensures that there are no malicious activities going about. The hostel seats are given purely on the basis of merit. Every year, only the students who satisfy the given criteria are allowed in the hostel. Rooms are also reserved for post graduate students, which are again allocated on merit basis. A guest house is also present here which facilitates the parents to stay while visiting their wards. It is very affordable(Rs.1000 for a night).

The alumni base of PICT is really strong. The seniors are always helpful to the students, both in studies and jobs. The seniors are always ready to help the juniors with studies and projects. Every year, during the placement activities, the alumni working in particular companies come to the college and share their interview experiences and also provide with sound guidance.

I wanted to get in the computer engineering stream, PICT is reputed for it's placement records. That is one of the chief reasons that made me choose this college. Also, they pay a lot of attention towards sports and other technical and non-technical activities apart from the academics. During the admission process, the staff was really helpful, the students were allowed to take a look at the college, the classrooms, and the laboratories. An orientation was also organised on the day of opening for both students and parents.

The faculty are adequately qualified for their respective subjects, and are always helpful to the students. Students can even work under some particular teachers specialising in a specific domain and acquire skills and projects.
