The supposedly best marine engineering college in India

This college is definitely good for Marine Engineering but considering the recent market conditions in Merchant navy, the placements and the job opportunities are facing a downfall. And the authority is not taking any effective step for it. The faculty should be improved.

It's a very unique course and most of common Indians don't want to follow this course. If you want to join this institution you've to keep in mind that this is no normal engineering college. This is one of those paramilitary colleges. You've to wake up at 5 am go for PT classes, attend fall ins (musters) daily. You've to go to classes, maintain a 85% attendance which is the requisite percentage for appearing in semester exams and if your attendance is more than 90% you get more internal marks as there are 10 marks allocated to attendance.

Yes, my university does provide placements and job opportunities. Every year atleast 120 out of 220 cadets (we call ourself as cadets which means officers under training) gets placed. We get generally 2 chances to appear for placement and if you fail then we can go to Mumbai and appear for off campus placements. And no my college doesn't provide internship as all the job is off shore type.

We don't have a lot of events. We celebrate the national events, like Republic Day, independence day. We have two fests, one official and one unofficial (the cadets funds this one). The unofficial fest, named TEMPEST is the biggest marine college fest of Kolkata. Otherwise small workshops are also conducted.

2,20,000 INR per year. You've to pay 1,20,000 INR every odd semester and every even semester you've to pay 1,00,000 INR. Being a government college this is very expensive but among the other marine colleges out there this is the least expensive of them all.

State Bank of India and bank of India offers loan facilities for the course. And we also get scholarship according to marka scored in the semesters. The topper of the batch gets 1 lakh INR and then 75K INR and then 50K INR and then lastly 25K INR.

The extracurriculars in this university is the best among other colleges. We have all sorts of sports facilities stating basketball, volleyball, football, cricket and all the other types of sports. We have a swimming pool and a gymnasium too.

This is a residential college and hostel is compulsory for all the cadets as it is a part of training and during your job you've to stay on board ships for long durations of time. Hostels are normal as it is supposed to be with WiFi facilities.

The alumni network of this college is the strongest and the best of all other colleges out there. We consists of all types of alumnus starting from chief engineers of a ship to government officials.

First you have to fill up a form for the entrance exam called IMUCET. Then you've to appear for it and if you cross the cutoff, you can apply for the online counseling process. You will be given respective campuses according to your rank. The best campus is in Kolkata. And then you go to the university and take admission.

The faculty of our college is good but not overwhelming. The faculty consists of normal professors and officers ( who actually passed out from this college and been on ships). The officers are obviously highly qualified but the normal professors here are good. But not that special.
