The college is best in every possible way. The fooding is good, hostel is good and studio are good. The college structure is lovely. The college even has a certified medical officer.
Course Curriculum Overview
The college provides paramilitary training, emphasising on the competency of sailors in every aspect. The courses and exams structure provides efficient learning for the new cadets, and as they pass out they pass out as efficient officers. The course comprises of total eight semesters. The college also focuses on mental as well as physical training, apart from intellectual studies. As we are with limited resources and personal on-board ship, its the college duty to prepare the cadet from the very first semester to cope up with hardships of living and working on board cargo ships, which the college is doing efficiently since 1949.
Placement Experience
Many great companies including NYK lines, MSC, Anglo Eastern recruits cadets from the college. The campus placement is very good and the competent ones are never left behind.
College Events
The first event the cadets is part of is the new comers party, in which the new cadets get to know about the college and college etiquette from their seniors. Once a year TEMPEST is held in the college, which includes cultural, technical, sports amd as well as western competitions. Many different colleges takes part and compete for the prizes.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fees is to be paid per semester. Average fees for the year is 250000 INR for boys. As this is a government college the fees structure is slightly lesser than that of the private colleges. For girls an average fees of 20000 INR is required. The fees includes mess charges, hostel charges and laundry charges. Apart from the course fees, only examination fees is to be paid which is normally 500 per subject or so on.
Fees and Financial Aid
Scholarship can be attained by acquiring the scholarship form from the warden office and then filling it accurately. The scholarship is also provided on the basis of semester results.
Campus Life
Every daybin campus starts with morning exercise at around 5 AM, following cadets fall in at 8 Am. College has a large playground for football, cricket as well as hockey. The college also has ave separate basketball court and volleyball court. Group discussions and debates are commonly held at regular intervals and each cadets gets to take part in them. Its the duty of the Seniors to ensure the group participation.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel is mandatory as the college focuses on paramilitary training methods. The quality of rooms and beds are excellent. The rooms are spacious and accommodates 4 persons. The main concern about hostel is the bathroom and toilet, which is in excellent condition and is cleaned daily by the sweepers. The water flow is constant.
Alumni/Alumna
Sea life can be difficult for some and easy for some. Thank to my college faculties and training procedures, I found the sea life not so difficult. The college emphasis on the basis training which is required to get on board and if you aspire to be a sailor, this will be very helpful.
Admission
First you gotta appear for a common entrance test - IMU CET. The colleges and streams will then be allotted as per ranking of IMU CET test. The IMU CET is held in the month of April and June. Its an online computer based test, the syllabus of which includes basic class 10th and 12th maths, physics and chemistry. General aptitude is also a part of the syllabus. The results are disclosed within a week and the branches of college is determined on the basis of rank.
Faculty
The faculties comprises of experienced and competent captains as well as chief engineers, which dedicate their time completely in guiding new cadets on a way of excellency and competency. Each subjects is focused individually by either of the faculties and the cadets also get the opportunity to learn sea life from sailing officers of merchant navy, as they are invited for lectures.
