Remarks
Everything's being said. It's a college like any other IITs/NITs with good infrastructure and resources.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum vast as we all about mechanical engineering branch. The syllabus was not much updated but contain almost all the required concepts for a basic core sector job. Also, there are various projects, workshops, competitions and activities organized by authorities and clubs to enhance our practical knowledge. Regular assignments and tutorial classes are assigned for clearing our doubts relating to the course. During summer and winter breaks, to gain industrial knowledge, students do internships and the college(training and placement cell) helps to organize different internships. I can't say that studying the course can alone make the student industry proficient, we have to learn other courses along with the college studies to make our skills better.Sometimes college organize those courses by hiring outside professionals.
Placement Experience
Placement scenario is quite good. Computer science engineering have the highest package along with Electrical and communication engineering. The placement of core branches like mechanical, civil, electrical are not that good but more than 80% of the students get job offers. To appear in placement drives, overall 6.5 CGPA is required till 6th semester for all branches. All the companies have different drives. Specially there is a written test, then group discussion and at last personal interview. But different companies have different processes and they may skip any one of the aforesaid three proceeding. Proficiency is English is required. Our institution has a training and placement cell consisting of both students, teachers and officials. Under the guidance of the cell, all the fourth year students prepare themselves for upcoming interviews. Some of the reputed companies that visited out campus to recruit mechanical stidents were Mahindra, hindustan petroleum, Tata motors, L&T, TVS, Maruti Suzuki, Honda, Oil India Limited, Numaligarh Refinery Limited, Brahmos, Gammon, Honda, Indian Army, NTPC, Saint-Gobain etc. Other branches also have many prestigious and reputed recruiters.

From the other 50% students, majority of the students are from the states of UP, Bihar and Telengana. Gymkhana Union Body the elected student's community of the college. All the major events are organized by this organization. Every year, election happens for different posts and students elect the eligible candidate. Our college contains students from different economic backgrounds and it does not effect the college life. Everyone is treated as equal in the college irrespective of economic condition or race.
Hostel Facilities
Yes. Hostels are single, double and triple. During 1st year, new students are placed in double rooms in a separate hostel to avoid ragging. During 2nd years, students get triple seated rooms. Students with high pointers get single rooms during 3rd years and others get double seated rooms. During 4th year, all students get single rooms(excluding girls, they have separate rules). There are 11 boys hostels and 3 girls hostels in the college. Married PG students have different hostels. Hostels are very good with good sanitation, electricity and high speed LAN(local area network) in each room and wifi. Most of them are newly constructed. Hostel seats are enough for admitted students. Hostel fees have discussed in college fees section. There is no AC rooms but all the rooms have one or two fans according to requirement.Food is good is hostels, offered 4 times in a day:breakfast, lunch, evening tea and supper. Each sunday special food is given to us. Non-veg and veg people have separate places to get their food.
Alumni/Alumna
Many alumni of our college are doing great works and are placed in respectable positions. Many talks with alumni have organised by authority and they were very helpful. Seniors are very helpful and they are like friends. They clear the junior's doubts in a very helping manner. I was too helped by my seniors regarding different educational and extracurricular activities.
Admission
Every year, JEE-MAIN is organised by CBSE for some selected engineering colleges. My college is one them.I cleared JEE-MAIN in 2017 with 19000 rank but unable to get good marks in JEE-ANVANCE.So,I decided to join NIT Silchar which was also my home state NIT. I wanted to pursue a core branch so I decides to take Mechanical Engineering since it is one of the best branch in the college. Also,I compared the placement scenario with various colleges but I found this college better in the region of my JEE rank. Also the branch was almost 50 years old and one of the prestigious and successful branches in North-east region. After the declaration of result of JEE, counselling precess started by JOSSA for admission in various IITs/NITs. All the participants have to fill up their college preferences and NIT silchar, Mechanical engineering was one of my top preferences. In the first counselling, I got Electrical but when the result of 2nd counselling process came out, I was finally able to get my preferred seat. So, after getting my seat, I locked my seat by paying a fees of 45000, got my documents verified. For final verification, I had to come to the college. After spending a long tiring day with verification processes and hostel allotment,I got admitted finally.
Faculty
Being an institute of national importance, the lecturers of our college are highly qualified with lot of degrees. Many of our professors have patents also and many of them are doing national and international projects with high budget. More than half of our lectures are in their youths and they are enthusiastic about teaching us. They are everything but strict during class times. Most of the classes are energetic specially the labs.
