Remarks
It's a Govt. Institute. So fees for pursuing an engineering degree is moderate. NIRF Ranking is 51 which is really very good. In fact, it's the 10th best NIT among all the 31 NIT. Anti-Ragging campus. Seniors are awesome- they are helpful. It's a legacy in fact that here seniors want juniors to outshine them, to work hard, to help them by supplying their own notes, to teach them programming language, to teach them whatever they had with them. Faculties are good. All the faculties here are highly qualified and each of them has an awesome knowledge of their respective subjects. Festivals celebrated here are awesome- let it be freshers, let it be branch freshers, let it be the annual technical fest- TECNOESIS or be the Annual cultural fest- INCANDASCENCE- the students from all branches, all years, all departments work together as a single team to make each event a successful one. Most importantly the placements here are really good. We have a separate T& P cell for the same so that each of us can get a handsome package rather than a satisfactory job just after the completion of our B.Tech degree provided we need to work hard on ourselves.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is fine but the way the world is developing it needs some advancements. Industrial exposure is provided although I didn't have till now but have seen seniors through doing the same. Faculties are fine, they are helpful and really well qualified. I know a teacher who has helped me by providing me notes of all that I asked him to share for a competitive exam which I have thought of preparing for, but sadly he is not a faculty of NIT Silchar now but still, he helped me out.
Placement Experience
The placements are good. According to previous track records, Nit Silchar students also got the job in NHAI, GOLDMAN SACHS, and many known companies. In fact in my department ECE the highest package this year is 26 LPA. The placement process is just like any other job exams: First is the written exam Followed by the PI round.
College Events
Campus life here in NIT Silchar is awesome. Technical fest here is called TECNOESIS. Participants are not only from our own college but students come from various parts of the country. Seniors help us to make various models for various competitions. You really feel that you are in an Engineering college when you see robots and other technical stuff. You feel proud actually for being a part of this event and yeah of course seeing the enthusiasm of every team for winning the competitions really gives you more power to participate. Lastly, we end it by celebrating Spark night in fact the glamorous night. We also have our Annual cultural event INCANDASCENCE where we all work together to make it a grand success. Seniors and juniors become close friends in this event. The cultural nights are marked by DJ nights, concerts by famous artists, famous band performances, various competitions, Zumba night and a lot more. The preparation for this celebration begins months before so that we can remember it and carry this event in our mind and our heart. Besides these two events, seniors are always organizing technical competitions for us so that we can learn new technical stuff. We also celebrate common freshers and branch freshers as well where we really have fun.
Campus Life
Proud to say that NIT Silchar has Asia's Second largest library. It's the second largest library in the world. Sports facilities are good. We have a separate building for indoor games called the SAC. We also have separate playgrounds for separate outdoor activities. Equipment in labs is also fine let it be in the chemistry lab or CS lab we are provided with separate equipment as per the requirement. Only in Physics and BEE lab, we are allowed to do it in groups.
Hostel Facilities
Yes opted for a hostel. Hostel Rooms are good. For Girls: 1st year: 3 girls in a room 2nd year and above: 2 girls in a room. For boys: All kinds of room available single or double depending on the availability they are allotted the rooms. There are enough hostel rooms for accommodation for all the students of NITS.
