Kirori Mal College: From UG to PG

Nothing is perfect, there is always a scope for improvement in any and every institution. I feel that Kirori Mal can be a little upgraded in terms of classroom infrastructure. Some classrooms are well ventilated, but some might not be. Apart from that, the administration at times tends to be a little obtuse and lethargic, unable to keep up with students' high pace lives and frivolous attitude. Barring few hiccups, the memories one makes in the college and campus are so full of positivity that meagre infrastructure shortages, sloppy management does not really make a dent or a difference.

It is fair, I'd say; a lot depends on the teacher's modus operandi. Some members of the faculty believe in giving out projects, research presentations, dissertations; while some believe in written and oral examinations. The curriculum is relevant and the college societies are a hub of exponential exposure to the outside world and brings out a different lens.

The placement cell works efficiently and has helped students secured a respectable package and company profile. Off-Campus placements too, are decent enough; given the tag of Kirori Mal and North Campus, DU are an institution in themselves, placement opportunities are bright.

Multiple events are held. I was the head of 2 societies and under them we had organised a bunch of festivals. Kirori Mal is a hub of cultural fests with perhaps some best societies across Delhi University. Our shades of festivals range from A-Z. Few examples of the fest I was personally in charge or participant of: 1. Gender Sensitisation Training. 2. Motivational Women's Conclave. 3. Weekly discussions on gender equality. 4. Youth Parliament. 5. Marathon. 6. Breast Cancer Awareness workshops. 7. An exclusive All Girls' Athletic Meet. 8. Interactive Session with Dr. Shashi Tharoor. 9. Talk by Kamla Bhasin. 10. An Interactive Session with Late. Sheila Dixit.

Kirori Mal, being a government institution and part of central university is highly subsidised and feasible. My 3 year's college fee (for B.A. Political Science) was less than Rs. 30,000 and there are more subsidies for the students who are not able to meet this fee structure.

I did not apply for any loan, neither was I eligible for any scholarship. Kirori Mal, however, offers scholarships to students from reserved categories.

Campus life is another life altogether. Every year thousands of students come in and become a part of a life which thousands of students have been living since the past 1, 2, 3 or many more years. I am fortunate that despite graduating, I'm still a part of North Campus because of my Post Graduation and I get to relive all my graduation memories with few of my friends from the formidable years. The cultural life too, is very strong. North Campus organises some of the best debating workshops and competitions and some of the most competitive sporting events in which not only all the 8 colleges of north campus take part in, but pan-DU. The gender ratio is respectable with 2 stalwart girls' college being in the vicinity in the names of Miranda and Daulat Ram. There is liberty, there is freedom and there's zeal in the atmosphere.

The alumni networks of all colleges are very strong, especially of SRCC and Hansraj. Despite their respective busy lives and challenging careers, notably all the alumni are still connected to the respective alumni boards of the colleges and actively support the college in whichever capacity they can. I was blessed enough to actually associate and be introduced to some shining alumni of my college who really helped not only me, but many of my fellow college mates too.

I got my admission in undergraduation and postgraduation both via the merit list. I had a decent score both in 12th and in undergraduation years which allowed me to opt for Political Science at the graduation and post graduation levels. Reason being, the subject is very dynamic, interesting and promising.

The faculty is understanding, pragmatic, a bit restricted at times, but they take their profession seriously and are dedicated; more dedicated than the students. Some members might be a tad bit relaxed, some upfront, but majority fair in the area of good. The strength of my course's faculty is their linguistic command. They teach well in both english and hindi, accommodating different demographics of students.
