Remarks

They take too much time to reform things, as is expected from a government college. There's some bias towards the college as it's in the Middle East, but more than half the students are from outside the Middle East. I personally think they're doing fine despite the low perception.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The curriculum feels fine apart from the first-year common syllabus that they follow, which has all engineering branches follow a common syllabus in the first year. I'm not sure if engineering drawing labs are relevant to a cs student. To get into the CS branch as a student with no advantages, you have to get 99% in mains.

Placement Experience

4.5

Placement is decent for cs and ece, but can't say the same about the other branches(and I personally do not know much about them).

College Events

3

There are two yearly fests, Tecnoesis being the techno-management fest, and Incandescence being the cultural fest. Both fests are pretty big and transform the campus for a few days. That being said, due to the remote location of the campus, not a lot of people come from other states/outside the cities barring the occasional visitor and people who come to perform/speak/host events in the fests.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Depends on your caste and economic status. If your family makes between 5-8LPA, the fee is decreased. If it's less than 1LPA, I believe the student pays next to nothing. The full fee is roughly 2L per year, but most students don't have to pay most of it.

Fees and Financial Aid

I haven't availed of anything. But students either show their caste certificate or income certificate and get to avoid paying most of the fee.

Campus Life

3.5

The gender ratio is 1:8 roughly. The campus is beautiful, but the nearest mall is 30 mins away. Not much city life on campus, but students get by going to the usual food places and restaurants and dhabas and hang-out spots. Students are mostly of lower economic status, with exceptions. There are regular workshops and events held by societies on a daily basis.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

Yes. Hostel rooms are ok, but also may be really old depending on what block you get. The food has a lot of potatoes in it and doesn't taste too well. Again, the cost is next to nothing depending on your status. The full fee however is 30k per year.

Alumni/Alumna

Senior students are helpful depending on the students, but most are ok. There are definitely some people who've achieved a lot and should be considered in a greater light. The alumni networks hosts events like Rexian to keep in contact, and society/branch events have you heavily coordinate with your immediate seniors.

Admission

I first wrote Jee mains in Jan and April. Then using my score I did Josaa counseling which lasts for seven rounds and has options like float, freeze, and slide which lets you change or accept the allocation of each round. Then I reported on campus after all the rounds ended to finish my admission and move into the hostels.

Faculty

3.5

Decent. There's a good amount of communication between the students and the professors. Some of the profs in the smaller/non-engineering department don't seem as passionate about their work(or anything really), but they get the work done mostly. Lab assistants are of varying proficiencies in some labs.

Placement Experience:

Placements at IIT Guwahati are excellent especially in the tech field ,with high placement rates and strong average packages generally Rs 30 lakh per annum. Top companies regularly visit the campus. After completing the course if i do not get placed on campus which is hardly possible i'll look for other off campus placements.
