If you just want a job in Merchant Navy, you can join college. Except for hostel facility everything will match your expectations.

Syllabus includes Theory of Machines, IC Engines, Thermodynamics, Navigation techniques, Ship building etc. The course is practical driven. Workshop is necessary in every semester generally related to marine industry. More than 70 percent College placements assured. Ship visits are done for senior years.

More than 70 % placements. Just try to be in top 100 students. Companies such as NYK Lines, Fleet Management, Anglo-Eastern, Essar Shipping and many others keep campus placement. All companies hold interviews for exams. Institutions have MCQ couse in library to prepare students for interview.

Many fests during October & November. Technical Fest is called Propulsion. Cultural Festival is called Tempest. Participants come from most colleges of Calcutta & nearby States. Sports Fest is named Chakravyuh. Sports matches are ones which are most interesting. Participation fee for college students are waived off in college fests.

Fee is accepted in 2 installment every year. Odd semester fee is Rs 1, 25, 000 and even semester fee is Rs 1, 00, 000. So fee per annum is Rs 2, 25, 000. Fee is accepted in mainly online transactions such as NEFT. Sometimes they also accept demand drafts. Examination fee is separate Rs 3000 per semester. Hostel & Mess fee is included in Semester fee. Fee breakdown can be demanded from PLA section of Administration. No donation required for admission.

Education loan is easily available through SBI. A bank branch has been opened in the college campus itself to avail easy loans to students. Merit based scholarship are awarded to students. Rs 50000 scholarship is awarded to top 30 students per semester.

Girls rarely opt for such courses. At most 2 percentage girls take admission. Campus is fully boys dominated. There are some literary groups & cultural groups in college. All other aspect is well diversified except gender. There is no such prevalent discrimination based on religion, caste, economic status etc.

Yes hostel is compulsory. First 3 years, you have to share rooms with 3 other students. No hostel fee as it is included in Semester fee. Hostel facility is not very good but it is okay. Some Mess are good and some bad. Though hostel & Mess has quality certification but it not maintained accordingly.

This is one of the areas where college excels. One of the best alumni network. Most seniors outside college are helpful. They are responsible for high campus placement. Even after passing out from college, most students remain in contact with college.

I was interested in Merchant Navy. So I opted for it. Candidates are selected by an yearly entrance exam called IMU-CET. Application process starts from February every year. Exam is conducted in April or May. Selected candidates have to go through medical examination & document verification. Then viola, you get an admission into College.

At least 7 lecturers every semester. So that totals more than 60 lecturers during the 4 year course. Most of them were above 40 years of age. They had good grasp over their subjects. Industry related subjects were taught with more expert professors. Yes most of the lecturers were themselves erstwhile seafarers.
