Jamia Millia Islamia University, B.A HONS POLITICAL SCIENCE
Reviewed on Dec 31, 2015

Remarks

The whole environment of the university is amazing. There is a lot to learn not only from the faculty but also from the students which are present. The diversities in ethnicities makes it that much more fun. As for management it works to its fullest and tries to maintain the decorum of the university which is beneficial to all.

Entrance Preview

Course Entrance exam conducted by Jamia Millia Islamia. I gave 2 entrances one for admission in the B.A LLB and one for B.A Politics Science. Points were not disclosed just the list was put up with the selected candidates in which I got the second rank in the the Political Science course and cleared the first waiting list for the LLB course.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The curriculum in JMI is very informative and educational and very diverse. Along with our Hons subjects we up an elective whick ranges from English Literature to Maths. Its provides a platform to not only learn one particular subject but also have knowledge about other subjects as well.

Internships Opportunities

The college internship that I got was affiliated with the Incredible India scheme of the Government of India and provided ab excellent opportunity for me to work in a new environment and meet new people. I was a program officer and had to carry out managerial activities for 30+ foreign students.

Placement Experience

3

Jamia is home to many courses which end up providing a lots of opportunities to work in the respective areas. Various departments like the economics department and the social work department have provided students with placements in various companies and have secured their future.

College Events

3.5

Apart from the annual college fest Miraas, Jamia holds fests for all the departments and had a long standing tradition of Talimi Mela which is a 3 day event celebrating our Foundation Day.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure in Jamia Millia Islamia is very reasonable as compared to other universities. Here the cost of an average Hons course is around 6000 rs which is pretty great.

Fees and Financial Aid

Many scholarships and grants are available in the university where the students get a chance to pursue whatever they want. This also include teacher's scholarships and fellowships of various kinds.

Campus Life

4

The campus life here at Jamia Millia Islamia is one of the best. It provides so much diversity not only within the country but outside as well. The students are a well knit community who help each other as well as the management. Being a Muslim majority institution does not allow any kind of discrimination against those of other faiths and allows all of us to live in communal harmony making itself a fine example in the eyes of the world. The university is a platform for both young men and women who excel in various fields and the university in all ways tries to harness the talents and aspirations to reach a whole other level.

Hostel Facilities

3

The hostel facilities are really very good as compared to other places like private PG'S. THE hostel has safe and a private environment which is refreshing. It is very economical and the facilities are at par with the level of the university. The rooms are triple sharing and in good condition also the hostel provides with separate reading room which also acts as a library of sorts and a TV room which is for the entertainment of the students.

Alumni/Alumna

Regular Alumnia meet is a prominent culture in JMI which enables us to look at the university right from the past and how it has developed and how it will develop in the future. Also the seniors that we encounter are the finest products of a great institution who guide us in problems of any kind.

Exam Structure

The exams are conducted in December and May for the semesters but in between the semesters there are internal exams which act as class test. All in all the semesters are balanced in a way that it does not overburden the students.

Faculty

4.5

The faculty is one of the best feature of JMI and is what makes it one of the top universities. They are intellectual and provide the students with the best of advice. They harness the best qualities of the students and guide them to a right path and enhance their growth not only as a student but also as a human being and member of the community.

The course curriculum is a bit too theoretical and less practical. The exams in the college takes places every month which are seasonals and are for internal marking and then we have semester exams in every 6 months which accounts for the external marking.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

I got a seat in Ramjas College. It is a north-campus college. The infrastructure is too good compared to the remaining colleges. The teaching also going well but I faced some language problems. I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
