Remarks

College of Vocational Studies, as the name suggests, is a college famous for its Vocational courses. It is the only College in all of Delhi University which provides a variety of vocational courses. It is situated in Sheikh Sarai, close to Saket. My motive behind choosing CVS over other colleges was the fact that I didn't want to go for the mainstream courses. I wanted a a different major, and the vocational courses in this college did it for me. It offers courses such as, HRM, Tourism Management, Office Management & Secretarial Practices, etc. The infrastructure is nice, and very well spaced. The faculty is top notch, and students have the privilege to be part of various academic and cultural societies. Admission to this college is based on the Merit list as well as the Quotas, such as Sports, NCC, and likewise. Being a South Campus College, the cut offs are set pretty high, but not so much. Although, the cut offs for Vocational courses are much decent as compared to honours.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I wanted to do and be part of something different, and what some might term, "unconventional". The day I got to know about the vocational courses, I knew that this was it. Shortly after going through all the courses, I decided I wanted to go for Tourism Management, as this was something that didn't seem "boring" or "regular". The curriculum for Tourism Management is interesting and vast. From the literal meaning of Tourism - to explaining how a particular City is given its code, it covers it all. It goes in depth of the various aspects of Tourism. It teaches all about management, law, history, etc. The Tourism faculty is equipped with highly reputed professors, with great qualifications. They teach in a manner which is easily understood. Just like any other course, there are semester wise exams, assessments, internals and projects.

Internships Opportunities

5

The students are regularly updated with internship opportunities from various well established companies, as well as Start-ups. The roles offered ranges from technical to management, with both paid and unpaid stipend structures.

Placement Experience

4.5

The placement opportunity is pretty decent here. We have Aspire- The Placement Cell of CVS, which is responsible for bringing in the internship and placement opportunities. An average placement package ranges from 3-4 LPA. Various reputed organizations like Ernest & Young, Decathlon, etc., visit the campus each year. Students become eligible for campus placements from 5th semester onwards. However, the internship opportunities are open to all.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees is very nominal here. It costs 8,500 for a year for Vocational courses, along with 500-800 for the examination fees.

Campus Life

4

The campus life is made more fun with the presence of various cultural societies that one can be a part of. We have the dance society, photography society, music society, drama society and so on. There are academic societies, too, such as the debating society, commerce society, student led Rotaract Club, the NCC and NSS. We have a two floor, air-conditioned library containing a variety of books. However, there are only so many books as compared to the number of students. There's also a huge ground which serves as a hangout spot and the source of heat during winters. There are regular cricket, volleyball and football matches. Tatva- the annual fest of our college is held each year in the month of February. It is a 3 day super fun fest. It is the most important and awaited fest for students.

The course curriculum is a bit too theoretical and less practical. The exams in the college takes places every month which are seasonals and are for internal marking and then we have semester exams in every 6 months which accounts for the external marking.

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

I got a seat in Ramjas College. It is a north-campus college. The infrastructure is too good compared to the remaining colleges. The teaching also going well but I faced some language problems. I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
