Remarks
The management is very lethargic being a government officer. But overall those were the most beautiful 4 years og life with lots of learning.
Entrance Preview
I appeared for AIEEE in 2010 and scored 138 on 432. My All India rank was 36042 and state rank was 1679. I couldn't get into NIT. After that, YMCA was undoubtedly the best choice. I could get admission in only ELECTRICAL, IT OR ELECTRONICS AND INSTRUMENTATION CONTROL branches and not in mechamical, computer science or ece. I chose electrical because of the 2007-2008 IT crisis but i guess IT would have been an equally better choice.
Course Curriculum Overview
College curriculum is designed very nicely. If one can follow it, it can surely help I landing a nice job or even cracking GATE or IES. The faculty is not at all helpful and one has to deal with the studies I his own. Anyways, this scenario is no different at any other institute also except for IITs or NITs.
Internships Opportunities
The internship is a mandatory 7 months training period in the 8th semester for CS and IT branches and in 7th sem for other branches. The stipend offered by few of the nice companies is 15-20 thousand per month. For example, ST Microelectronics offers 18000 stipend. But for electrical of mechanical branches, there are not many companies to offer internships though the placements are above average.
Placement Experience
TCS is one of the top recruiters and it offered 3.38lpa this year. Also, Samsung RnD Institute offers 8+ lpa package. Apart from this, many mechanical companies offer 4-5 lpa packages.
College Events
The college celebrates an annual cultural cum technical fest in February or March every year. Apart from this, there is a Foundation day celebration in December. Also, other events include the usual National Days celebration like Republic Day etc. And the college's NSS wing organizes various events relating to social causes. The IEEE student branch organizes technical events like robo race, hacking seminars etc. The Swami Vivekananda Club celebrates the Vivekananda week with debates etc. And then there are other technical clubs and art club and literary society who have there own events accordingly.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee is very much feasible. Annual fees excluding hostel or mess charges is around 60 thousand rupees.
Fees and Financial Aid
Loans can be availed on individual basis from any bank offering education loan. There are both rank and pointer based scolarships and prizes ranging from 7500 rupees to 40000 rupees per year. Also, category based state government/UGC Aapproved/ Central Government scholarships are applicable.
Campus Life
Campus life is very happening. Annual cultural and tech fest make up for the extra curricular. Also, the various clubs organize activities on regular basis. Also, there is an annual Sports Meet.
Hostel Facilities
The boy's hostel facilities are not that good but they are fine at girl's hostel. Most of the boys stay outside in PGs or flats. The expenses in are around 3000 per month while outside the college, readily available flats or PGs cost around 6000 to 7000 rupees per month all inclusive.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumnis have made it big in their lives but there is little interaction between the alumni organization and students. On a personal level, the seniors are very helpful and their guidance helps a lot.
Exam Structure
The university is a state government university and therefore the exams and conducted and corrected here itself. A typical semester had 6 subjects and 3-4 labs and a full day workshop-not for CS and IT every week. There are two sessional exams each of 30 marks per subject and a final semester exam of 60 marks per subject. The average of both sessionals is taken along with semester and internal 10 marks making total 100. There is a CGPA i.e. pointer based system on a scale of ten.
