Remarks

The campus management was highly supportive of the students on campus. Discipline was strictly enforced however the management had the confidence in the students to allow a great amount of freedom. The administration ensured that all students had adequate resources to complete all academic requirements.

Entrance Preview

I took IIT JEE air 2520. The choice of course and IIT was a function of the rank. The choices I had were between a 4-year civil engineering course at IITR and a 5-year dual degree course at the other IITs. I wanted to make the choice of a master's at a later date and hence chose IIT Roorkee.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

The course curriculum was intense up to 6-7 courses each semester. The electives were mainly within the department. Electives were in structural engineering, hydraulics, environmental engineering, and transportation.

Internships Opportunities

I interned with a construction company (AMSRI) in Bangalore. The stipend was Rs. 25k per month. It was a good learning experience that helped me learn more about the construction business.

Placement Experience

3.5

There were roughly 100+ companies that came to campus. The companies were mainly in computer science Microsoft, Google, Yahoo, etc, consulting companies (PwC, Deloitte, etc and core companies Trident, Tata Steel, L&T, etc.

College Events

4.5

Cognizance 2nd largest technical festival in India. Over 130+ events packed into 4 days. Attracts close to 2500 participants across India. Thomso Cultural festival of IIT Roorkee. The fest is somewhat smaller due to its location and attracts a crowd of 1000 participants mainly from local colleges around Uttaranchal.

Fee Structure And Facilities

It was very feasible Rs 20 k per semester includes hostel and mess fees. It was a very reasonable fee given that this is a highly subsidized rate.

Fees and Financial Aid

Merit cum means scholarships were available to any student who did not have the means to pay the fees There would be fee waivers up to 100% of the fees. Loans were available from SBI, Punjab National Bank to the students.

Campus Life

5

The gender ratio was quite bad 1 girl for every 10 guys roughly. The campus life was quite good. The sports facilities were really good, there was a cricket stadium, basketball, volleyball, tennis and badminton courts. There was an Olympic sized swimming pool. Due to the nature of IIT and the student it was a highly tolerant campus. There was never any politics based on ethnicity, race, religion, economic status, or sexual orientation.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

The hostel rooms were largely single rooms about 15 sq. m. Every student in IIT had to live on the campus and these hostels were quite good. They had a canteen, tv room, games room, and a computer center.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni network is largely not too strong as funding for the IITs is driven by the Central government. There is quite a lot of interaction between the juniors and seniors on campus and you develop good friendships however outside the campus, the connections are not too strong.

Exam Structure

There would be two mid-semester exams and one end semester exam. There would also be a lab exam towards the end of the semester. The day would start at 8:05 and end at roughly 4 PM - 6 PM.

Faculty

5

The faculty was outstanding and really the best in civil engineering in India. They had formulas named after themselves and had written textbooks in civil engineering which are used across all other colleges.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is highly relevant, focusing on practical knowledge for real-world prep, though more hands-on application and updated content would strengthen it. Exams occur 6 times yearly; they are tough but fair for the course.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course because of its affordability and the teaching quality of this college is good . They helps in choosing the real life application based projects . Teaching methods are impressive but they don't provide notes . We have make notes by attending class regularly. Frequency and timings of exams are of 3 hrs. For each subject . Difficulty level is moderate and students can prepare it well in the gap days also .
