Remarks

NIT Patna is a well established institute which lags in it's infrastructure and social life of students. However, it is improving every year at a good rate and has provides excellent opportunities for you future.

Entrance Preview

I took JEE MAIN examination and scored 180 marks. But due to my board percentage(90.6%), my JEE Main rank was affected. It was about 23,500. I opted for NIT Patna because of it's reputation as one of the oldest engineering colleges of India and good placement stats.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course curriculum is quite conventional. I don't think it has been modified since quite some time now. But same is the case with other NIT's as well. There are some optional courses in 3rd year. Sadly, the curriculum is not focused on research at all. If you have research ideas in your mind then this is not the right place for you.

Internships Opportunities

Yes. The internship scenarios of NIT-P is quite improving. Some companies offer internship to 3rd year students. like Amazon(For CS, IT students), Total Oil etc. I think the stats will improve in subsequent years.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure is according to the latest MHRD guidelines for fee in NIT's please visit the following link for detailed fee structure.

Campus Life

4

Gender ratio is quite health as compared to IIT's ,BITS etc. A lot of extracurricular activities are held. Proper selections for sporting events like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Table tennis, Badminton etc are conducted every year. There are not many properly established clubs in college which is quite a disadvantage of being here. But still, a good number of events like Robotics workshop, E-cell competition etc are conducted here. Coding culture is also improving very fast. The start-up culture is also on a rise as college has just started an Incubation centre. Honestly , the social life here in Patna is not so good as compared to other cities. There are not many places to visit at weekends. Only 2-3 malls are present in Patna. Everything closes at 10:00 PM and it is also not very safe at night. Hostel timing for girls is 8:00 PM which is quite ridiculous. The students here are mostly from Bihar, UP, Rajasthan. There are some students from south India as well. Overall, the cultural balance is quite good. There is no politics in campus as there are no student unions etc. which is a good thing.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Sadly, the hostels are not sufficient to accommodate all students. But new hostels are being build so from next academic session, all students will get hostel. The condition of hostel is quite good. There are facilities of Wifi, Common room etc. The mess food is also fine. There is also a facility of night canteen for students. In case of staying in PG, there are a lot of rental PG's avalaible. The average rent is 5000-7000 per room(shared by 2 people). You can ask seniors for good PG rooms.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni network of NIT Patna is quite strong. Seniors are very helpful and supportive for anything. I had an interaction with Prakhar sir who has been placed in a well reputed MNC and he has started to prepare 2nd and 3rd year students for interviews and competitive programming.

Exam Structure

The exam structure is quite relaxed. There are 1 mid sem exams(30 marks) and one End sem exams(70 marks) per subject in a semester. The difficulty level of papers is quite average. The first year is quite hectic due a number of labs but the schedule gets easier in subsequent years.

Admission

I got admission in NIT Patna by JOSAA counselling. First, I was allotted NIT Hamirpur (Chemical Engineering ) but due to my interests in Computer Science, I opted for this college. The admission process takes about 2-3 days. You have to get your medical certificate, anti-ragging certificate and affidavit for admission. I would advice you to reach Patna at least 2 days prior for hassle-free admission.

Faculty

3.5

Overall, the faculty is quite average. There are some really good professors(Anurag sir, S.K Jaiswal sir(Phy),Haider sir(CS) etc.) from whom you can really learn a lot but some faculty members do not have sufficient expertise or will to explain things properly. Students here are not much dependent on teachers.

Placement Experience:

From 7th semester students are eligible to seat and apply for campus placements . Eligiblity criteria depends on companies but if you have 7 CGPA ir more than that then you don't need to worry . Companies like Godrej, ACC,CDAC, BHEL, Infosys, WIPRO ,TCS etc. visited our college for campus placements. Highest package from our college is around 13 Lakh Per Annum and average placement is 3 to 4 Lakh Per Annum Its totally depends upon companies and their job profiles. There are almost 60 to 70 percentage student got placement ( In upper branches like CSE& AI percentage is slightly high otherwise it is quite low for civil and our branches) My plans after getting a degree that is I have to go for M.Tech from any IITs of India I am preparing hard for that.

From 6th semster you are eligible to sit in campus placement . There is companies like Infosys , TCS , De Walls Ads , Wipro, Congnizent, ACC visited our college for campus placements . They have limited offers with limited packages also they have some eligiblity criterias like students should have CGPA above than 7.5 . Highest package offered in our college is 13 LPA per annum by TCS for a CSE student and Average package is around 3.5 to 4 lakh per annum. There is highest placements in branches like CSE ,EEE andCIVIL. Other branches got less offeres. Totally 50 to 60 percentage students got placements from our college because majority lower branch students are preparing for government exams like SSC , UPSC, BPSC , DAROGA and GATE. My plans after getting the degree to go for highes studies (M.TECH) .

From 6th semester students become eligible for campus placements. There is companies like Wipro , Infosys, ACC, Copegimini, Congnizent, TCS visited our college for campus placements. There is very less number of offers given by companies and also there is almost negligible offers for Lower branches(like Mechanical and Civil) . There is highest 12.4 lakh per annum for a CSE student given by TCS and average salary of 4 LPA . There is only 50 to 60 percent students got placements in which majority are from CSE , CSE-AI , and EEE branches. My plans after getting the degree is doing M.tech from any reputed Colleges of India like some NITs or IITs depending to my Gate Score.
