One of the oldest and best marine engineering college around the globe

The admission process is simple one has to give the imu CET entrance exam. After clearing the exam one can sit for the seat allotment process and select the Colleges according to preference and according to the ranks, seats are allotted. The college is one of the oldest and most reputed colleges not in India only but also in the world. The college has the biggest workshop in Asia and it provides great practical knowledge to the cadets. Hostels facilities are fine and hostels for each year are provided and even new hostels have been made for the first year and third year. The teaching faculty is also good and mostly teachers include the passouts of our own colleagues who have served on the ship and provide us with wide knowledge regarding the marine engineering field.

The course curriculum is mixed of various engineering branches like civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics, etc. The faculty consists of passout of our college and others. As many of our teaching faculty consists of passouts of our own college they provide with wide knowledge regarding the field according to their own personal experience on the ship and a lot of practical knowledge. There are two internal exams and final end semester exam which includes practical and theory exams that are conducted at the end of the semester.

The college provides for campus placement and one can sit for the placement two times and if not provided with a seat one has to visit companies outside the campus on their own. Almost 60-75% are placed among the batch. Cadets are allowed to sit in campus placement only if one doesn't have any arrears in previous semesters. The placement scenario has changed a lot.

The fee structure is good if we compare it with other Marine engineering colleges in India as well as abroad being a government college. The fees are divided into two semesters 1.25 lakhs for the odd semester and 1lakh for the even semester. The cost to study will include fee + other expenses that vary according to the students as one may require to travel a long distance in the semester holidays that can be expensive for some students. Scholarships are provided based on merit each semester. The list of students according to the percentage is out who cleared for the scholarship and hence in the next semester, the scholarship is provided to the students which can be used to pay the fee in the further semester.

The college has an annual fest called tempest that is held around October. That consists of various programs and sports events conducted on our campus where other colleges come and participate and compete. The library is good on our campus almost every book is there and even ebooks are provided in th library. The college has almost all the sports teams including basketball, hockey, cricket, football, etc.

The hostel is compulsory for all as our course is a residential course. As one has to live onboard ship for 6-9 months it is it provides us with such experience. The rooms in the junior hostel are to accommodate six. The hostel mess food is the same as in any other hostel mess. The hostel fee is included in the semester fee only. The laundry facility is provided in the hostel.
