Remarks

The college management at college is not smooth but does perform its functions. There are many hurdles on getting some form signed or even getting a duplicate mark sheet. There are also problems in hostel allotment each year and some other organizational activities are not performed well. But the basic management is quite well at the college level but it certainly needs a vast amount of improvement.

Entrance Preview

I took IITJEE in 2014 after preparing for two years and secured AIR 359 while scoring 254 marks on 300. I had many options to choose from such as BITS, IITs but my interest was inclined towards CSE and thus, I decided to choose CSE and as IITs are ranked best colleges, I chose them. Of them, I had a preference order for many IITs before Roorkee but I was allocated Roorkee but i am happy over here.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

IITR offers one of the best curricula in CSE at least as I am not much aware of the curriculum of other departments. The curriculum was recently changed in 2013 and more department courses were added in place of other general science courses that allow students to get acquainted with a vast knowledge of the subject. As far as I know, many colleges teach only general courses in 1st year but at IITR we are taught our department-related courses from 1st sem itself. Also, the institute offers to go for honors that has advanced subjects that allow students to gain deep insight into the subject. But there are some loopholes still in this curriculum as it includes fewer elective courses that a student can pursue as per his interest. Also, the higher education offered over here is not producing the desired results and thus there are not many successful PhD Scholars here at IITR compared to the topmost institutions in the world.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, the training and Placement Cell at IITR is very active and the placement and internship season goes for the whole year. Yes, college provides internships and many companies visit our campus. All prefinal year students can sit for an internship. Some companies for an internship that have already visited this year or are going to visit are with their approx stipend; Accenture 50k, Adobe 40k, Amazon 40k, American Express 100k, Goldman Sachs 60k, ITC 75k, Microsoft 45k, Nutanix 90k, Reckitt Benckiser 45k, Samsung 35k, Facebook 8000USD, Schlumberger 10k, Tata Steel 10k, Texas Instruments 25k

Placement Experience

5

The Placement season is very vital in any college and so is in our college. In December all final year students eagerly wait for the companies to arrive and get placed. Last year about 250 companies visited our campus and total placements amounted to 1296. Many Students received pre-placement offers from the companies where they interned. Some companies and there CTC are: Adobe 28 lpa, Amazon 27 lpa, Goldman Sachs 30 LPA, Microsoft 20 LPA, Microsoft Redmond 150k USD, Facebook Int 100 USD, Oracle dom and Int 200 USD, 25 lpa, Google Int 200k USD, IBM, ICICI Bank, Infosys, ITC 22 lpa, Reliance, Samsung

College Events

4

The various groups on campus keep organizing events at the college level like guest lectures, workshops, Cultural Programmed, and others. But it also holds two large-scale fests each academic year: Cultural Fest- Thomso, tech Fest- Cognizance second largest in Asia these two events see mass participation every year and a hierarchical student team is formed that oversees all management aspects of the fest.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes, IITs earlier used to offer MCM to students who had income else than 4.5 LPA by providing a 50k fee waiver. Now they provide interest-free loans to students and also some % fee waiver. All SC/ST students are also offered fee waivers and sometimes mess fee waivers as well.

Campus Life

4

The gender ratio is very bad at IITR due to the lack of girl students and male students dominant. But still, the college is very diverse in regards to the student's talent. The campus has many groups such as Music Section, Chroeo Section Dramatics, and Cinematic as well. Sports facilities offered here are close to the best. Any student can pursue any sport he wants such as Cricket, Football. Athletics, BasketBall, etc. The campus also has a gymnasium. There are other societies as well such as Quizzing, Debate, Robotics, Astronomy, Software Development, Gardening, etc.

Hostel Facilities

2

The hostel facilities are good since all students are allotted single rooms from second-year while few are allotted from first year as well. The rooms have enough furniture for the student's requirements. But the mess food provided by all hostels is not up to the mark. Students have to find other ways to satisfy their hunger since mess food is very bad in quality and taste. They serve very oily and unhealthy food items.

Alumni/Alumna

The college has a department dedicated to the alumni network and a student is also chosen through elections as general Secretary Alumni Affairs which organizes various events to promote interaction of various alumni and students. IITR heritage award is also awarded by an alumnus to students for their excellence in sports, extra-curricular and academics. Senior Students over here are very helpful and keeps on conducting interaction sessions wit juniors to help them out. There is even a Mentorship program that assigns mentors to First-year students and helps them in various fields.

Exam Structure

The exams are conducted twice a semester at IITR. One in the middle of the sem and one at end of it and assigned different weightage. The contact hours differ in each semester according to the credits. The years in a sem are 20-25 and thus is pretty balanced. It becomes sometimes hectic in the first year when we have 25 or 26 credits plus the practicals but it gets chilled in higher years as students are less burdened. Labs are not much of a burden as students are taught something in labs as well.

Faculty

3

The one thing all IITs lack is quality faculty. The desired ratio of students to faculty is not maintained and thus students suffer from this drawback. Over here also the same problem persists, The lack of faculty can be seen in our department by just seeing that all electives are not offered to students since there are professors not available to teach. Thus, students are offered limited choices, and thus even in presence of a good curriculum, one is not satisfied. Also, due to lack of faculty and overload on faculty, the courses are assigned randomly and a professor gets a course in an area in which he is not well versed. And thus students have a hard time grasping the concepts.

The curriculum is highly relevant, focusing on practical knowledge for real-world prep, though more hands-on application and updated content would strengthen it. Exams occur 6 times yearly; they are tough but fair for the course.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course because of its affordability and the teaching quality of this college is good . They helps in choosing the real life application based projects . Teaching methods are impressive but they don't provide notes . We have make notes by attending class regularly. Frequency and timings of exams are of 3 hrs. For each subject . Difficulty level is moderate and students can prepare it well in the gap days also .
