Remarks

I think IIT Roorkee is one of the best engineering colleges in India. There is a good balance of life between academics and extracurricular. Students have the chance to find their interest here and pursue it without any problem. There are so many groups in our college and students can join them according to their interests. College management is also good. Generally, there solve the problems of the student without any delay.

Entrance Preview

I took the IIT-Jee entrance exam in 2014. I scored 208 marks out of 360. Finally, I got the 1863 rank in the exam. I wanted to go nearby college in my hometown. So I filled IIT Delhi and IIT Roorkee. But I didn't get my preferred branch in IIT Delhi. So I took admission to IIT Roorkee.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Course structure in IIT Roorkee is flexible after the second year. A student has even one departmental elective course rather than an institute elective course. A student has options for plenty of courses. So he can select a course of his own interest like power plants, automatic control, etc. Also, there are management-related courses in the third year like banking and bank finance, marketing research, etc. Also, a student can take audit course from another department at the starting of the semester. But there is not a single project in academics until the third year. You have to approach a professor to take a project and if he agrees you can do a project before the third year.

Internships Opportunities

In the third year, students are very much concerned about their internship. Some of the big firms visit our college in the 5th semester. Some big IT companies are Microsoft, Facebook, Samsung, etc. They provide the stipend of 30k p.m. Also, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley like investment banking firms visit our college to recruit the best coders. So, a number of companies visit our college for software engineer profile. But the no. of core companies of mechanical, civil, the chemical is very few. ITC visits in the first month of the 5th semester. ITC provides the stipend of 75 k p.m. But it recruits only 3 or 4 students. So as a mechanical engineer it is very difficult for me to get an internship in my college. The list of companies came is ITC, Tata Steel(10 k p.m.), and VECV(12 k p.m.) for mechanical engineering.

Placement Experience

4

During last session, 1037 students were placed on campus. Main companies came Adobe 17.61 lpa, Amazon 10.5 lpa, Bharti Airtel 8 lpa, ICICI Bank 12 lpa, ITC 18 lpa, Tata Steel 10 lpa, NBC bearings 6 lpa, Capgemini 6 lpa, Rivigo 14 lpa, Indus Insights 10 lpa, Innoplexus Consultng Pvt.Ltd 12-14 lpa.

College Events

5

Our college organizes mainly 4 fests: Thomso(Cultural Fest) - Budget of thomso is around 30-40 lac and around 1500 participation came from other colleges, Cognizance(Technical Fest) - Budget of cognizance is around 75-85 lac and around 2000 participation came from other colleges, Sangram(Sports Fest) - Students team from other colleges came to participate in various sports and budget is around 10-15 lac, Sankalp (Annual Social Convention) - Budget is around 10-15 lac and various guest lectures are organized.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Recently, the fee is hiked for all IITs. Currently, my fee per semester is: Tuition fee - 45000 Rs, Exam fee - 300 Rs, Registration fee - 300 Rs, Hostel, Rent - 2500 Rs, Electricity Charges - 2500 Rs, Mess Charges - 12000 Rs, Gymkhana Activities - 3000 Rs, Medical Insurance - 280 Rs. The fee varies from semester to semester. Generally, it is around 70000 Rs. It is feasible for most students. Those students who have a family annual income of less than 4.5 lac are eligible for merit-cum scholarship(MCM).

Fees and Financial Aid

Merit-Cum Scholarship is provided to students whose annual family income is less than 4.5 lakh. These students are exempted from the tuition fees. Also, all SC/ST students are exempted from tuition fees in all IITs.

Campus Life

3

There are a lot of cultural, technical groups in our college. The choreography section, music section, lights section, audio section are the main cultural groups of our college. Watch out, geek gazette, kshitiz are the main magazine groups of our college. ASME, SAE, Team Knox, FSAE are the main technical groups of our college. The gender ratio is very low. It is around 1:80 girls to boys. Each hostel has its own Bhawan day annually. In our technical fest, there are a lot of competitions organized related to robotics, literature, coding etc. Students affairs council is mainly responsible for raising students' voices. SAC members are elected through voting by students.

Hostel Facilities

3

Hostel rooms are provided to all students. In the first year, double rooms are provided. After that, each student is provided a single room with lan facility, a table, a chair, and a bed. Mess food quality is also good in comparison to other college hostels. Thrice a week, a sweet dish is provided at dinner. In breakfast, 200 ml of milk is provided.

Alumni/Alumna

We have a good alumni network. There are various groups through which we can contact our seniors and ask them for help. Most of them are very helpful. Our alumni are in all field consultancy, industries, banking, etc. They also help us with the preparation of job interviews. There is a Student Mentorship Program (SMP) to guide the first year students by interested in senior students.

Exam Structure

In one semester, exams held two times. MTE, ETE. Midterm examination occurs within 4 days. In one day there are 2 exams. The end term also occurs within a week period. I think it is a good exam structure without taking a whole month for examination. It didn't waste very much time in the examination. It is not very hectic. And there are no final practical exams. As we do practicals in class, at the end professor took viva weekly. So, this is a good system to evaluate the practicals.

Faculty

4

The faculty in your college is very qualified and experienced. Most of the professors have done PhD. from one of the IIT. And they have good teaching experience also. But some of the professors don't show any interest in class at all. They take it as an extra thing. But there is a review of the professors at the end of the semester.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is highly relevant, focusing on practical knowledge for real-world prep, though more hands-on application and updated content would strengthen it. Exams occur 6 times yearly; they are tough but fair for the course.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course because of its affordability and the teaching quality of this college is good . They helps in choosing the real life application based projects . Teaching methods are impressive but they don't provide notes . We have make notes by attending class regularly. Frequency and timings of exams are of 3 hrs. For each subject . Difficulty level is moderate and students can prepare it well in the gap days also .
