Remarks

Overall I would say that the 4 years at IIT Roorkee will be the best 4 years of my life. I got good friends, a competitive environment which inspired me to grow further, a great platform to build myself. What more could I possibly ask for. The college management is great and helping. Everything is great, the quality of faculty needs a little improvement though.

Entrance Preview

I took JEE (mains) and JEE (advanced). I got an all India rank of 56 in JEE (mains) and all India rank of 684 in JEE (advanced). I chose IIT Roorkee because it was the best available college at my rank for which I could get the Computer science branch. Moreover, I had heard some great stories about IIT Roorkee.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Personally, I would give an above average (not excellent) score to the course curriculum. The focus on research is not that good. People look forward to going to foreign universities rather than attend IIT Roorkee for research purposes. There is a good choice in electives in the 4th year where a person can choose courses of his interest, though not many options are available.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, IIT Roorkee provides summer internships which are mostly research-based. The general stipend is around Rs 5000 plus living expenses. I do not know much about the experience but the projects which the interns work on are quite good.

Placement Experience

4.5

Placements are great at our college. Top giants like Google, Microsoft, Oracle, Flipkart, Amazon, etc come to hire students. A lot of companies come to hire. As far as my branch (Computer Science) is concerned, all the students seeking employment get placed within first 3 days of placements. I do not know the exact package details of every company but some of the CTC details are Microsoft IDC (21 LPA), Oracle India (21 lpa), Flipkart (27 lpa), Amazon (25 lpa), Visa (18 lpa) etc. Many startups also come to hire. Most of the IT companies offer a CTC in the range of 18-29 lpa.

College Events

5

We have 2 major fests: Thomso (the cultural fest of IIT Roorkee) and Cognizance (the technical fest of IIT Roorkee). Thomso is one of the biggest cultural fests in India. Great celebrities come every year to perform, this time is the best time in IIT Roorkee. Cognizance is among the greatest tech fests of Asia. Other than these events like sports fest, social fests are also organized.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure for my year is Tution fee - 45000/semester and hostel, mess & another fee - 23000/semester. Thus the total fee we have to pay is around 68000 per semester. It is affordable in general. We also have a merit cum means scholarship for students whose parental income is less than 4.5 LPA in which the whole tuition fee is waived off. However, the new fee structure for the students who joined this year and for those who will join in the future is very disappointing. The fees have been increased up to 2.5 folds making it impossible for an average family to pay fees by themselves.

Fees and Financial Aid

Merit-cum-means scholarship is given to students whose parental income is less than 4.5 LPA. The scholarship is limited to 25% of students of a branch. In this, the whole tuition fee is waived off for the student.

Campus Life

4.5

Campus life is pretty awesome. We have all kinds of stuff to do here. Sports facilities are the best. Well-maintained Grounds, sports equipment of good quality, trainers, etc all are available. Other than that every kind of extracurricular activity takes place at IIT Roorkee, say, music, dance, drama, debating, aerobics, magazines, etc. The gender ratio is a bit of a concern. It is around 1 girl to 14 boys which is really saddening. Hopefully, it will improve in the years to come.

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostel facilities are quite good. All students are allotted a single room. The cleanliness is up to the mark. Mess food is clean but the quality is not good. Most of the time we like to skip the mess food and go eat outside. Mess quality has a lot of scope for improvement, but regardless of complaints and stuff, the mess people continue to serve bad tasting food.

Alumni/Alumna

The Alumni network is quite strong. They help a lot by guiding what to do and what not to do. Alumni meets also take place every year. Seniors are very helpful too. It would have been difficult to survive without their help, they guide us at every point be it internship interviews or placement interviews, or any further studies options like MS or MBA. All kinds of people are here, so we can find help in almost all problems/doubts.

Exam Structure

There are 2 semesters each year and in each semester 2 exams are taken. One is the mid-term evaluation which has a weightage of 25% and the other is the end-term evaluation with 50% weightage. The rest 25% is for the class performance, tutorials submissions, class projects, and attendance, etc. Labs mostly have a continuous evaluation and no final test is taken. It is a chilled out system with not much pressure on students.

Faculty

2.5

The overall score that I would give to the faculty is poor. Some of the faculty are very good. They teach passionately and have a great deal of knowledge and expertise about their subjects and research areas. But the others are just not worth attending their class for. The quality of teaching is not up to the standards of an "IIT". We rarely learn anything from a course, we rather study it just for grades and the knowledge we have comes from self study.

The curriculum is highly relevant, focusing on practical knowledge for real-world prep, though more hands-on application and updated content would strengthen it. Exams occur 6 times yearly; they are tough but fair for the course.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course because of its affordability and the teaching quality of this college is good . They helps in choosing the real life application based projects . Teaching methods are impressive but they don't provide notes . We have make notes by attending class regularly. Frequency and timings of exams are of 3 hrs. For each subject . Difficulty level is moderate and students can prepare it well in the gap days also .
