Remarks
It is one of the best colleges in India to study Mechanical engineering. It has the best faculty for guiding you throughout your course of study. The admission to the college is by attending JEE Main and the exam is usually conducted in the month of April.
Course Curriculum Overview
Mechanical Engineering comes under the core engineering and has a lot of opportunities in the future. NIT Calicut does have a bunch of good faculty but few core subjects are taught by Adhoc faculty and not professors, so that's a downside. Exams are conducted regularly with two inter-semester tests and a final one along with other activities. The exams are a bit tough and you need to put in a lot of hard work.
Placement Experience
A lot of companies do visit for placements. As for Mechanical engineering, companies like Maruti, Volvo, HPCL etc. From a batch of 140 usually around 80-100 get the placements. The highest package offered for mechanical engineering was 10 LPA. After college, it is your option to choose the career path that you want, as for me I chose to be a data analyst. The mathematical background provided helped me greatly in choosing that profession.
Fees and Financial Aid
NIT Calicut has a fee structure with around 40,000 as tuition fee and you can expect around 5000 per month as hostel charges. For tuition fee, NIT Calicut does offer financial assistance so you can apply for that as well. The average job salary after completing the course is 6 LPA (depends on the course).
Campus Life
NIT Calicut provides a nice campus experience with a lot of active clubs. The annual tech fest is Tathva and it is conducted in the month of November and the cultural fest Ragam conducted in the month of April and can bring out the colours in you. NIT Calicut has a vast library with a lot of journals and provides a digital library facility as well. The campus does have all the facilities for sports activities but not is given much attention.
Hostel Facilities
NIT Calicut has great accommodation facilities with regular cleaning and maintenance. The hostel food system is best and there are foods that suit all taste. There is a separate mess for North, South, Veg, Non-veg that you can choose and can rotate every month. The quality of the food provided is also good.
