Remarks
We have a very good college with a history of more than 150 years o existence with exemplary statistics.
Entrance Preview
I had opted for IIT Roorkee because my father was an alumnus and this was recently converted to IIT from UOR while this is the oldest college even though it was not converted to IIT, it was at par with the then IIT colleges.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is restricted to 4 years course divided into 8 semesters with a certain amount of minimum subject credits(around 40) to be taken. Standard dept. Subjects are of 4-5 credits. The lab and other research setups were really up to the mark with research scholars working on new upcoming projects and sharing their ideas in seminars etc for a B.Tech undergraduate only last semester we have a b.tech project which cab be said as a research topic to be taken and progressed in certain direction. I had a very good exposure to the subject while doing that.
Internships Opportunities
Yes, we have signed MOU with many colleges like NYU and nsu and we have a student exchange program running with them.
Placement Experience
The placement is well structured with a common placement cell, which is an online portal through which you can track the upcoming companies, upload your resume, take consulting from seniors beforehand, and a mix of companies from various industries to participate in campus placements. Our batch had avg package of 8lakhs.
College Events
We have majorly two events one being a tech event called cognizance with huge participation from all IITs and NITs and colleges from across India for that matter. The other being a cultural festival called thomso, as per the old name of the college which also attracts many college students. Both are 3 days of events with lots of fun and learning.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee is feasible and is regulated and funded by govt. So it's not more than 4-6 lakhs for the whole course at least for the registration stay and food. This is definitely way less than any of the private colleges. While there has been a slight increase in tuition fees with time but I think it's still very reasonable.
Fees and Financial Aid
Since the college is a tier 1 college you will get good interest rates from SBI and any other Bank for that matter as education loan while SC/st have a preparatory course to help them enter I don't think there is any specific scholarship which waivers a lot for general students. While you may find Amy scholarship for felicitation purposes. My knowledge about this may be limited as I didn't opt for it.
Campus Life
We have many clubs which have all the facilities to take care if your specific hobby starting from the Himalayan explorer club for trekking and local hiking/kayaking etc. There are also clubs like star gazing which may seem bizarre to a few people. We have music and dramatics, for early entrepreneurs, a cell has been setup with many meetups with the startups coming in and giving speeches. Robotics and mechanical shops are also there for core engg. Fields. If you want to focus more knit setup you have our server rooms where you can contribute in digital marketing, intranet website management etc. There is enough and more to do and you will definitely find one or the other as your interest.
Hostel Facilities
The hostels are old but very well maintained and are state of the art being self-sufficient with all gym/canteen/recreation/outdoor playground/computer center facilities included. Mess food can be somewhat messy and we should discount that considering standard of food in any of the engg. Colleges across India. While hygiene is maintained it may not be lip-smacking tasty. While the college has come up with many new Bhawan which are like sky scrapers but they may have less common space while other facilities are there.
Alumni/Alumna
Yes, we are helpful and will take care of you once you are out in the corporate world. There a huge network of alumni and they have been contributing to the college.
Exam Structure
The exam structure is very much the same as starting with pre-mid-term test, mid-term exam then the final exam. The labs are really up to the mark with all new-age facilities. Overall it's a chilled-out term if you do attend classes and at least make notes while going regularly to the labs.
Faculty
The college faculty is really helpful and they have a good background. They have in-depth knowledge of the subject while they also manage research scholars and do independent consulting. Mostly they have Ph.D. from outside India and carry a strong lineage of academia.
