Insights of NIT Patna

I choose this college based on my preferences which may vary from person to person. NIT Patna is definitely one of the best colleges in terms of academics. Faculties are having sound knowledge of the subject. Labs are well equipped. A library consisting of all the required books. Apart from academics, it has 3 boys hostels outside the campus and a girls hostel inside the campus. First-year has a seperate boys hostel. It has a Student activity center for co-curricular activities featuring GYM, Yoga, TT court, Badminton court, Squash court, Billiards, and Music Room indoor. Outdoor basketball court, volleyball court, Football, and Cricket ground. The only drawback being campus size that is around 28 acres only. The admission process is very simple based on your JEE mains rank you can get the respective streams in the college. The counseling is done by JOSAA. There wasn't any specific reason for selecting the college it was allotted based on Mains score. But the selection was worth it.

As mentioned earlier I was allotted this college in the last round of counseling. The course I choose was EE because I had an interest in the subject and wanted to go for PSUs. The faculties were great and had sound knowledge of their subject. Nearly 90 students were there in my course so the ratio was roughly 1:90 in the class. Nearly all the faculties had a PHD degree and they used smart classrooms to enhance the understanding ability of students. While a few faculties used the conventional method of whiteboard and marker. But they tried their level best to make students understand. That's a big positive from NITP. The exams were held twice in a semester. Mid sem consisting of 20 marks and End sem of 70 marks and 10 marks for CTs and assignments. The exams were timely conducted and it was up to the teacher how difficult or easy the exam will be. Although it wasn't difficult to pass the exams if you have attended the lectures and gone through the class notes and the books suggested.

The students become eligible for campus placements from the seventh semester. However, they are eligible for internship from fifth semester onwards. A good number of companies visit each year for recruitments like Sabre, Capgemini, Oracle, OYO, Alstom, Vedanta, L&T, KEC etc. The highest package was offered by Sabre for CS and IT students it was 14 LPA. The average package was 8-9 lpa for CS which comes down to 5 LPA for core branches. 100% placement for CS and IT students whereas roughly 65% placed in core branches. I joined Alstom after completing my Bachelor's degree.

The fee structure for 2015 was 39000 in the even sem and 36000 for odd sem. However, it was revised in 2017 by MHRD for IITs and NITs. Now it is roughly 65000 per sem for NITs for a normal person coming from a good background. If you are coming from the economically weaker section you do get some relaxation. State government provides scholarship for students based on your eligibility. The college also does provide scholarships for students based on a Merit cum means basis. Other financial assistance can be availed through an education loan. On-campus placements the most important part of NITP. It has a healthy placement record for CS and IT branches having 100% placements with avg package of 8 to 10 LPA. On the other hand, it is not so good for core branches roughly 50% of students get placed with an avg package of 5 lpa. In 2019 the maximum package was offered by Saber 14 lpa for CS and IT. In the core, it was Vedanta with 7 lpa. I received a package of 6.5 lpa from Alstom.

Social life at NIT Patna is way too broad. There are various clubs like SAE NITP, Robotics club, IEEE, ASCE, Music club, Dance Club, E-cell, and other clubs. The annual Techno-Cultural fest is named Corona and Melange being organised every year in the month of January. It is a 7-day fiesta. Books and journals are available in adequate amounts in the central Library. Smart classrooms include projectors, speakers, and system to help students get good overall learning. Sports being my personal favorite section. Almost every sport is being played at NITP. Every year a team being selected for each sport represents NITP at InterNIT sports events. There are coaches for volleyball, Football, Badminton, TT, Cricket, and Powerlifting & Weightlifting. Along with the Techno-Cultural fest, there is an inter-branch sports tournament named Intramural Sports being organised every year. All the branches participate for their pride and honor and do get the rewards they deserve.
