Miranda House College for Women is one of the finest institutes for passionate, ambitious and career-driven women of India. Students from all over the country and even outside India come here to study, from countries like Mauritius, Russia, Bhutan, etc. many foreign students come and learn in Miranda House college. With highly qualified professors a lot of those who were passed out from other fine institutions like JNU are highly encouraging when it comes to research-oriented projects. Labs be it chemistry, biology or computer are amazing here with state of art level devices and technologies. A lot of meritorious students even take out salary packages worth 45 lakhs INR. in courses such as Economics Hons.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

My course is B.A. English Hons. wherein you're taught several aspects of English language itself, there is literature which is quite interesting, the course also offers you to study about the different era od of English literature, it's forms and how it originated. The faculty members include Ms. Jyoti Nair and Mr. Omprakash Sharma two of the finest professors of Miranda House college who emphasize on a student's holistic learning through various projects based on heavy research. Miss Nair has a unique method of teaching as she takes on a student's perspective for each of her lessons and pushes them to widen their mental horizon. She's a JNU pass out with a PHD in English Literature. Prof. Sharma on the other hand uses traditional methods of teaching where he discusses important facts and give us all readings to study further. His surprise tests are exceptionally lengthy thus preparing one for the term exams well.

Internships Opportunities

3

Considering the covid times the Placement Cell has provided students with plenty of work-from-home based internships related to marketing and sales which are stipend based on your performance. However, the Cell also provides non-paid internships which are often free of cost in order to help the maximum student acquire sales tactics and a lot of learning experience as well as certificates from experienced authorities. There are several workshops which you can attend to learn different ventures for eg. there's one virtual reality workshop, software development workshops, etc.

Placement Experience

3.5

After completing the bachelor's degree in MH a lot of students tend to either pursue higher degrees such as MA etc. or go for civil services. The college provides an ample amount of study material and guidance if you wish to go for UPSC. However, we also have a Placement Cell with it's exciting internships to make your CV shine through and stand out. Students from courses like B.A. Economics Hons. do tend to take up salary package of up to 45 lakhs. Companies like The Times of India, Axiom, Aggrawal Associations, etc. have offered jobs to plenty of MH students. There is complete help in terms of resume making and discussing further career prospects. Top recruiting companies like ICICI Bank, Tech Mahindra, and like the one I have mentioned above visit the college every year.

Fees and Financial Aid

Around 15k per annum is charged per semester which means 30k annually. Scholarships are given to students holding excellent merit in their given course and are even awarded an All-Rounder Award for their excellence in academic as well as co-curriculum activities. You need to fill in a special form for Financial Assistance the details which are provided by the college itself. You would also need to submit your family's annual income in order to receive the financial help which should be less than or equal to 3lakhs INR per annum.

Campus Life

5

Miranda House college is known for its amazing campus life. Our annual fest is called Tempest which is conducted between the month of January and February (depending on student's exams and other things). We take part in great curriculums, there is the western dance society (Tanz), the Indian Dance society (Mridang), Indian and Western Music Society as well, and my favorite and most important of all The Queer Collective Society of Miranda House also our Women Development Cell which brings out different programs related to the current issues raising in the country, we also have our very own Placement Cell which provides us all sort of Internships there are many you can do as per your demands and needs and fill up your CV. The College also likes to encourage it's students to take part in a lot of NGO-based programs associated by NGOs like the Udaan Foundation etc. Miranda House is known for it's rich campus and is winning the best campus award for 2 consecutive years straight.

Interview Experience

4.5

There are courses such as computer science and B.L. Ed. wherein you have to give written exam to get a seat in college. However, there is only merit-based selection for BA students. The procedure is simple but hectic considering the number of students who apply each year. Once you clear the required cutoff generated by the college you need to come here with essential documents and submit them as asked by the said authorities who are admission incharge of the college. Lastly, they call you for a bit of paper work and there you have it. Your fate is sealed at Miranda House College.

Other Applied Colleges

Gargi College | B.A. Economics Hons.

I was unable to clear the cutoff list and initially waited for the 2nd. However I couldn't clear that one too. So then I applied to other colleges.

It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

I got a seat in Ramjas College. It is a north-campus college. The infrastructure is too good compared to the remaining colleges. The teaching also going well but I faced some language problems. I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
