Remarks
As I wanted to pursue a Social Work education, I chose this college. The University of Delhi provides Social Work in only two colleges-Aditi Mahavidyalaya and Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College. Aditi Mahavidyalaya is an all-girls college, whereas BRAC is co-educational.I had heard a lot about the social work department of BRAC, that's why I chose to study here. The college is a great academic institution that promotes co-curricular activities as well and our course provided us an in-depth understanding of the fieldwork process. Our department has the world's best faculty, with years of knowledge and experience. The admission process begins after the cut-off lists are realized on the DU portal. Once our percentage matches the cut-off, when can go to college and seek admission. There are limited seats for all categories.I would suggest this college to students, who aspire to become social workers in the near future as they will get the best guidance here through supervisors.
Course Curriculum Overview
There is one drawback about college that the nearby surroundings are not as good as compared to those colleges on the North campus. I opted for this course because I wanted to help the poor and underprivileged people. The faculty members are very qualified, and their teaching method is very good. They provide us exposure to the grassroots realities of the world. Exams are semester-based, more weightage is given to fieldwork practicum.
Internships Opportunities
Internships in our department are offered in terms of unpaid fieldwork practice in various social and welfare agencies, where we are allotted supervisors who guide us and mentor us, ensure our learnings. We write weekly reports and go for fieldwork on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Then our performance is evaluated at the end of the semester.
Placement Experience
In our department, we do not have a placement cell. There is a placement cell for other departments. After getting the degree, I would probably be opting for a master's or opt for any fellowship program, that would provide more insight into the field and give a lot of experience.
Fees and Financial Aid
There is no provision of placement, but we get a lot of exposure to career options through various workshops and seminars. Scholarships are provided to SC/ST/OBC students. The fee is around 13000, which is affordable. For students belonging to the minority, their fees are returned through scholarships.
Campus Life
The fests are ok. Sometimes local singers are invited and sometimes celebrities. The library is huge with very many resources available for studying, there is no shortage of books, notes, magazines etc. The classrooms have projectors. The sports department is great with all essential services for players. Music and dance societies are also great but not that organized. The college is free of politics.
Interview Experience
Earlier there used to be PI at my time, but now I am not sure. Principal sir took a Personal interview and asked the reason behind coming to DU and choosing this stream. He also told about the pros and cons and provided information about the residential facilities nearby.
