Remarks
Admissions in NIT SIlchar are given by merit on the basis of JEE Main ranks. There is also a 50% home state quota for a student residing in their home state, that is who has given their AISSCE (12th Boards) from Assam. The overall admission process is smooth and is done in abiding by JoSAA guidelines.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose Computer Science and Engineering course in NIT Silchar as I have a keen interest in Computer technical and also because this branch has a very good placement record in the previous year placements. Also the faculty: student ratio is 1: 15 which is great. Almost all the faculty are Ph.D. qualified and have a great understanding of their particular fields. We have two exams during each semester, one mid-semester exam and one end-semester exam. Both the exams are of moderate difficulty and test overall knowledge of the subject.
Internships Opportunities
The college provides on-campus internship opportunities to pre-final year, final year, and also to 2nd-year students. Many good companies like Goldman Sachs, Amazon, Samsung have recruited students for internships in the previous years.
Placement Experience
The placement record is very good with an average placement of 7Lpa CTC and 75% placement percentage throughout all branches. The placement record of the CSE branch is even better with an average placement of 11Lpa CTC with 100% placement percentage. Big giants like Amazon, Microsoft, and Goldman Sachs have also visited the campus. Along with that, a few PSUs also visit the campus for on-campus placements. The T&P cell is quite active in the college and provides great opportunities to students for internships and placement.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee for a normal general non-EWS candidate is around 70k per semester. It varies for SC/ST and EWS candidates which are around 6K and 25K respectively. Students can also pay their fees through a student loan or any other external scholarships which they have got.
Campus Life
The college boasts of the largest annual technical and cultural fest in North-East India after IIT Guwahati. The annual technical fest, Technoesis is held during September every year and comprises various modules like Robowars, Sumowars, technical workshops, and NITS Hacks, which is one of the largest hackathons conducted by a college in North-East India in which various student participate. The annual cultural fest, Incandescence is held during February every year and has seen some notable performers like Darshan Raval, Rahat Indori, The Local Train, and many others. Besides, there are many technical and non-technical clubs like Coding Club, Developers Club, Dramatic Club, Music Club and many more which are in the college and provide great opportunity for students to showcase and improve their skills.
Hostel Facilities
The rooms in hostels are quite spacious and a bed along with a study table and personal small wardrobe is provided to students. Each hostel has WiFi/Lan facility with superfast internet speed. Most of the rooms in hostels are double seater but some hostels also have triple and single-seater rooms. Each hostel has a mess and the meals provided are of moderate level.
