Remarks
Along with Jamia, I had applied to Delhi University. However, I chose Jamia over it because of the reputation of its history department where I had to apply. Although there were several quota's, I didn't classify under any, so I applied through General mode. Regarding the admission criteria, it was compulsory to secure a minimum of 50% in class 12th. And the best part was unlike Delhi University, the Counselling process is way swifter as many days are allotted for admissions and the in-charge in-office checked all the documents personally. Even the guardian was allowed along with during counseling.
Course Curriculum Overview
I always wanted to pursue History, and at Jamia, it's amongst the best courses. In my course, the faculty: student ratio is also fine as in no class there are more than 60 students. All professors are Ph.D. holders and most of them teach well. Although due to the current situation of COVID since last one and a half year, there was always one or more issue in the exams and its timeliness, on a sound study of the subject, its not difficult to pass them.
Placement Experience
For the courses like Architecture, Engineering, Law, Mass Communication, many big companies come for placements in Jamia. As my course is a Bachelors's subject under Arts, there aren't many placement opportunities. But I hope to pursue my Master in History after which I would try to get placed.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee at Jamia is very minimal. For my course, it was 7100 only for a year. Although I didn't apply for scholarships, many of my friends did. Being a central university there is an option of several scholarships which could be availed.
Campus Life
The campus life is like any other university. Many departments conduct their separate independent fests, including the 'Historica' which is conducted by the Department of History and Culture. The library at Jamia is very big and developed with all modern infrastructure. There is also a vast sports ground where even a few games of the Commonwealth Games of 2010 were hoisted. There are many student-run organizations including 'The Jamia Review' an online website started by Jamia students whose I'm a member of.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel seats are very few in Jamia, especially for the boys, however, I was lucky to get in. The rooms are double and triple-sharing based. The meal quality is not too good, not too bad. They offer options for both vegetarian and nonvegetarian food. The registration process for hostel allocation begins after the admission process is over, through an interview. If the student isn't able to find a hostel, they can rent a room or PG in nearby Batla House, Julena, Friends Colony, according to their pocket.
