A fresher review

I applied for different colleges like BITS Pilani , NIT Jalandhar for the B.Tech course but as I had my interest in Computer science so I got this branch in thapar college. I didn't get my preferred stream in other colleges so I didn't opt for them. I got my state quota of Punjab state for admission in Thapar as I am a resident of Punjab. I got admission on the basis of board exams. For the COE branch minimum cutoff was 93% in PCM subjects and I got 94% so I easily admission on my first counselling day only. Due to covid there was no offline counselling session so all the councelling sessions were held in online mode. So admission was on the basis of boards exams but last 2 counselling session was based on JEE MAINS exam scores.

I choose this course for two reasons 1. I had geniune intereset in Coding 2. The scope of Computer science is increasing day by day with many job opportunities. The faculty: student is 17.28 but it is expected to rise upto 90 in the next 10 years. Mostly all the faculty members hold a P.H.D degree in various streams and some of them have a masters degree but all have an experience of more than 10 years in the feild of teaching. Term exams were usually after a period of 5-6 months and their level was an average one if you had given like 20 hours to study in a week you would pass with flying colors.

Companies that internships offer are San-disk, TT, Accenture, Paytm, Samsung, Flipkart, Amazon, and many more. They usually come in the summer of the 3rd year where the top students get placed in these internships which has a time period of 6 months. All the outcomes of these internships are pretty great students get to learn new skills and they also get to do projects in the skills in which they are perfect.

From the 6th semester, students are eligible for campus placements. There are over 200+ companies including companies like Microsoft, arcesium , JP Morgan, Deloitte, Samsung, Apple, Google, and many more. The placement rate is 98% in Thapar university. The highest package is 43 lakhs but the average is 8-9 lakhs each year. My current plans after getting a degree are a job with a handsome amount of salary.

As it is a private university so it is more expensive than other private universities. For a full 4 year B.E course it would cost you around 25 lakhs including hostel fees and other expenses. They have 5 types of Merit scholarships and they also provide all the other scholarships that are issued by Punjab Government. They also have financial assistance as an educational loan for people who can't afford these high prices.The job offer comes in the third or fourth year of this B.E course.

Thapar conducts many festivals and fests for thier students. Starting with frosh week which usually happens around mid of august then they have a huge thapar food festival which happens in September. Thapar library is like its pride it has over 40 thousand ebooks, 3610 e-standards,20862 e-proceedings,3500+ CDs/DVDs and 85 print journals, and many more. There are many amenities in the classroom from fully ac to full technical gadgets like a digital board, projector and they are made in such a way that sound is heard proper in every corner. They have all kinds of sports grounds be it badminton, basketball, cricket, volleybal, lawn tennis, table tennis, horse riding and many more they also have a big auditorium both open and closed for conducting various events. There are many societies and groups run by students like MUDRA society, CCS, EDC and MLSC etc, and many more both technical and non-technical.

Fully AC rooms with attached washrooms and proper in working condition. A meal here is also very good all types of Indian and Chinese meal is served which you can have according to your taste and need. Registration is done online only on thapar website at the starting of college. Price varies year by year but is usually 40000 for three months. In Patiala, you can also rent a room or PG which you can get at a very cheap price but from personal experience, they are not of that level as of hostel.
