Remarks

I took admission to Deen Dayal Upadhyay College, pursuing BA Programme in history + political science. I chose this subject because I want to prepare for civil services. Well, I was expecting a better college than this one but according to my percentage, I think it is still better. And also after attending college for almost a year I realized that my college is actually good, the infrastructure is nice and the faculty is experienced. There is just one problem that it's kind of off-campus. The admission process for 2020 is in online mode and the University releases the cutoff list and then according to your percentage you can choose the college but you should be very careful while doing because of overconfidence and just one mistake you can lose your chances of getting certain course or college. Just be very attentive. DU obviously has a reservation quota system and they also provide scholarships to needy students and fees are also quite reasonable. I took admission through the sports quota.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

As I already mentioned earlier I want to prepare for civil services that is why I chose this subject. I also love political science and I think history is actually one of the important subjects to prepare for civil services. College offers nine undergraduate honors courses, various bachelor program courses, and add-on language courses. There are 94 permanent, 18 guests, and 35 temporary faculty members. The student strength is 2531. The teacher-pupil ratio is 1:18. Teachers are mostly experienced and really good with their subjects but there are some teachers who can just change their methods of teaching otherwise they are also good. Exams are tough but not tough, I mean I can't say if they are tough or not but you should be attentive in your classes and through with topics and syllabus.

Fees and Financial Aid

Fees for my course is 18000. Well, it's affordable and not really but if you compare it with colleges of the north campus it is still more but it can be reasonable because infrastructure is new and colleges of the north campus of DU are old with older infrastructure. The college has a reservation system like any other college [especially governmental colleges]. You can apply for governmental scholarships if you're struggling financially. College provides internship opportunities. Major recruiters are Bharat electronics, FIS Global, S & P Global, Concentrix, Royal bank Scotland, etc. Well, there are rarely any placement opportunities for the students of Bachelor of Arts. The highest package has been 5 lakhs something. Well, career counseling and Placement cell of college work hard to provide opportunities of both paid and non-paid internships to students in private and governmental and non - profit organizations.

Campus Life

4.5

The campus environment is really good and as infrastructure is also nice and new. The college has a modest library with 2229 volumes of books and there are approx. 45000 documents. Classrooms are new and equipped with modern amenities. There is a big auditorium - fully air-conditioned, there is a cafeteria with an AMUL counter. There is a gymnasium on the college campus, a sports complex both indoor and outdoor, fully equipped laboratories, a computer center, a medical dispensary, and hostels for both boys and girls. The college has NSS, different societies, various clubs, women development cell, placement cell, quiz wing, Gandhi study circle. Students of the college participate in a lot of inter-college as well as intra- college sports events. Kalrav is the annual fest of DDU. College also organizes annual tech and management fests. All the clubs, societies, unions, councils, and cell have Instagram pages run by students.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

I got a seat in Ramjas College. It is a north-campus college. The infrastructure is too good compared to the remaining colleges. The teaching also going well but I faced some language problems. I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
