Remarks
I got into symbiosis college of arts and commerce and various other colleges of Pune, I also got into several colleges in Mumbai including HR and Jai Hind College Mumbai. Out of all the colleges I made into, Symbiosis suited me the best. The admission process here was very smooth. You don't have any entrance exam for admission in the undergraduate courses. One is admitted based on the 12th score here. The cutoff in my year started from 95% i.e the first merit list and I had scored 91.69%, thus I got into this college on the second merit list. The cut off varies from year to year and mostly the admission closes at 87%- 85%. I'm not sure about the minimum age for admission, but if you are having a gap of 1-2 years, they do accept gap year students provided you have the relevant documents and the desired marks in your 12th grade. I did not avail any quota but there are several quotas for admission such as sports quota, army quota, etc.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course because it suited me the best. The course curriculum is great and very detailed. The curriculum is designed in such a way to give students a good and thorough understanding of the subject. I'm not sure about the faculty-student ratio, though in my class the ratio was 1:80. Some of the faculties are really great and have a good command of their subject. Most of the faculties here and PhDs and thus have a vast knowledge of the subjects. There are some faculties whose classes I do not enjoy and find tiring. But rest everything else is fine. Since it is an autonomous college, the exams are conducted on time and the difficulty level is moderate, not too tough and not too easy. If one has studied enough, it's easy to score a good grade. The assignments and the projects are really interesting and intriguing and make one thinks a lot.
Placement Experience
I'm in my second year right now, so I'm not sure when students become eligible for placements. From what I've heard from the seniors and my batchmates, they become eligible to sit in placements from 3rd year. Various companies like Delloite, E&Y, Northern Trust, etc come to the college for placements. The average package is around RS 4-5 lakhs per annum. Students find jobs off-campus as well. My plans after graduation are to go for masters. I'm not really sure about it but most probably it will be to complete my masters.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure is a little high if you compare it with other colleges for the same course. It is around Rs 27000 in the first year and around 50000 in the second year if you are opting for the honours program. I will then say the fees are worth it as the quality of the education here is quite good. There are scholarships and financial assistance available, I'm not sure about it because I haven't availed of any of them yet.
Campus Life
I have not had the privilege of getting a campus life due to the pandemic but the college and the students of the college have made sure that we get the best of it even online. The two major events are TEDx SCAC and Symagine. Several activities and events are going on around the college throughout the year. One will not be idle if one wants to engage in different extracurricular activities. The college is brimmed with exciting events throughout the year. Various skill developments workshops are also conducted by the teachers and students. College life is very happening here and I wish we all get to go back to college to experience it in person.
