Remarks
I had applied for some other private and government colleges also but was not getting Computer Engg there and I wanted to pursue computers only. I was from the general category but from Punjab so Thapar provided me with an advantage of state quota which went in my favour. My 10+2 percentage was decent (95.4%) and due to the Covid pandemic majority of the students were admitted through boards percentage as JEE Mains and other entrance exams were getting postponed. The admission process was through online mode which was a good thing in such adverse conditions.
Course Curriculum Overview
As the IT sector is continuously growing in the country and I myself was also interested in computers that's why I chose this course. The student-faculty ratio is around 20:1. The faculty here is quite good and are friendly with the students. Almost 90-95% of teachers have master degrees with them. There were continuous evaluations even during the online semester which kept the students in touch with the college studies. End semester examinations were taken in offline mode and the level was moderate to difficult. Checking of answer sheets was also done timely in order to cope with the loss of time which had been encountered due to the pandemic.
Internships Opportunities
Giant Tech companies like Adobe, Sandisk, etc. It offered various roles to the students under internships with an average stipend of around 40,000 per month. Projects like Capstone and engineering projects help the students to acquaint themselves well with the professional atmosphere and understand better the work culture.
Placement Experience
From the 6th semester onwards students become eligible for placements. Many A grade listed companies like Microsoft, Amazon, JP Morgan, etc. visit the campus for regular placements. Last year highest package offered was by Microsoft which was around 43 lacs per annum. The average package offered is around 7-8 lakhs which is also a decent figure. Around 90-93% of students get placed every year. I want to get a nice placement from the college and wish to work for an international MNC.
Fees and Financial Aid
Due to a world-class private institution, it is quite understood that fees would be high than govt colleges. But the high fees taken from students is also reflected when you compare the level of teaching and college infrastructure with other colleges. Scholarships, approved by govt are provided to deserving students every year which motivates them to work even harder. Fees hike is there every year but not that much observable.
Campus Life
The campus of Thapar is very beautiful and provides a picturesque view to the eyes. Well equipped labs and classrooms along with the best hostels are there for students. Each hostel has its own gymnasium and swimming pool. Saturnalia is the annual fest at Thapar. Food fest and tech fests are also regularly organised. Sports and extracurricular activities are actively promoted here. For each sport, separate well maintained ground and synthetic tracks along with coaches are there. ECON club is a student club run by the seniors where a lot of competitive activities are held.
