Remarks

Amongst top 6 IITs, Location remote hence placement not as good as IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay. Blogs and websites refereed to - Bang for the bucks article by WatchOut, IIT Roorkee; College Pravesh website

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Geophysics is an evolving branch with huge scope of research. Faculty members are highly qualified with most of them holding a foreign Phd and are IIT graduates. Term exams are held twice in one semester alongwith two quizzes of 10 marks each and if the student pays attention in the class, the term exams are easy to pass.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

About 150-200 comanies visit for internship every year. Average stipend for internship is approx 50000. Top tech companies like google, microsoft etc visit the campus. I have opted for internship off campus at Stashfin which is a financial services startup and would be working on their backend system.

Placement Experience

4

Placement and job opportunities are good, yet IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay and IIT Kanpur beat IIT Roorkee with average packages. About 300-400 companies visit the campus every year and hire the students for various profiles, mostly IT and software engineers. If no campus placements are offered, most students either enroll for higher degrees like Phd or prepare for competitive examinations like UPSC.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure includes everything from tuition fees to hostel and mess fess. The fees for one semester is approximately 124000. My course is an Integrated 5 year course. There are ample scholarship opportunities which are funded by college passouts and the administration. Several schemes are also resourced by the central government. Some of them are James Thomason Scholarship, Encore Awards, Merit Cum Means Scholarship etc. Campus placements are also very good at IIT Roorkee.

Campus Life

5

The campus life at IIT Roorkee is amazing. The campus is spread in an area of 366 acres with resources and labs for almost everything you can think about. The college clubs are divided into two types - Cultural and Tech. The cultural clubs include choreography and dance section, photography society, cinesec. The tech clubs include SDS Labs, IMG (information Management Group), PAG (Programming and Algorithms Group), MDG(Mobile Development Group), DSG(Data Science Group). Three fests are held annually - Thomso (Cultural Fest, October), Cognizance (Tech fest - March), Sangram (Sports Fest - march). The Mahatma Gandhi Central Library (MGCL) is the largest library amongst all IITs and almost all books/ journals are available. They also buy books based on students recommendation. The sports complex of the campus is spread in an area of about 10 acres and includes facilities for almost all types of sports like lawn tennis, table tennis, athletics, weight lifting, cricket etc.

Hostel Facilities

5

It is mandatory for everyone to stay in a hostel at IITs. The name of my hostel is Ravindra Bhawan. The hostel rooms are small though, but each hostel has all the facilities from Canteen to gyms. The hostels are quite affordable with yearly fees of about 30000. The food and menu is decent and constantly reviewed by eminent people to ensure proper nutrition for the students.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is highly relevant, focusing on practical knowledge for real-world prep, though more hands-on application and updated content would strengthen it. Exams occur 6 times yearly; they are tough but fair for the course.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course because of its affordability and the teaching quality of this college is good . They helps in choosing the real life application based projects . Teaching methods are impressive but they don't provide notes . We have make notes by attending class regularly. Frequency and timings of exams are of 3 hrs. For each subject . Difficulty level is moderate and students can prepare it well in the gap days also .
