IIT Kharagpur is among the top IITs of the country and this is the reason it was among my top priorities for my BTech. IITK was placed 5th for BTech in 2020 NIRF rankings and got the same position in overall rankings too. Admissions to the Institute are done similarly as other institutes of IIT group as the seats as allocated by JOSAA counselling as per the JEE score of the candidates
Course Curriculum Overview
I've always been curious about learning about the mechanisms and working of machines and this is the reason I decided to take Mechanical Engineering. IIT Kharagpur has a total of 19 Departments, 9 centres of excellence and 13 schools and all of them have the best of faculty members in them. The 4 year program helps students to learn about the implementation of their studies and in the mechanical branch the role of practical knowledge becomes more important
Internships Opportunities
The 2020 graduating batch got great offers for internships by the visiting companies. The participation of students in the round was also more than the last year and many students got impressive internships from top level companies.
Placement Experience
During the placement drive of our batch more than 200(220) recruiters were there which includes various international firms also. The placement percentage for BTech during the drive was 86% and most of the students got handsome packages. Nearly 40% of the offers were made under IT-software sector and the top recruiters of mechanical branch were Airbus Engineering centre India Pvt.Ltd and AbsolutData Research & Analytics Pvt.Ltd. The average salary package for the batch was around INR 19 LPA.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The total fee for BTech-ME program at IIT Kharagpur is INR 3.16 lacs which is almost similar to some other prestigious IITs. This fee includes the tuition fee while the students opting for hostels have to pay additional charges for the facility. The students who cannot afford the fee can apply to avail study loan benefits from leading banks which can be paid back as per the rules and regulations. Category based concessions are also provided to the reserved categories.
Campus Life
The campus life at IITK was fabulous experience as it gave me the opportunity to explore different kind of activities,fests and eventsRobosoccer, the Spring Fest, Prakriti, leadership summit, technical fest and case competitions are some famous events at IIT Kharagpur arranged after fixed intervals throughout the year. Our library is a great content source providing books and e-journals across all different engineering branches. The famous societies of our Institute are the VGSoM Development Society,Tech Club,Corporate & Media Interaction Cell,Saamanjasya and the E-cell.
Hostel Facilities
One of my siblings was settled in Kharagpur and that too near my college campus that's why I haven't opted for the hostels. As I was not a part of the facility, I can't share any personal reviews about it but as far as the facilities are concerned they were really good as my friends used to admire the facilities they have got there.
Admission
For admissions to IIT Kharagpur or any other IIT the student must have appeared in JEE Main and JEE Advance as both these scores are noted for merit rank preparation. Then he should register for the JOSAA through which the seats allocation is done after the national level counselling
